The Panthers have been “consistently” receiving calls from clubs interested in wide receiver Curtis Samuel, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter) hears. So far, they haven’t been keen on the idea of trading Samuel, but Rapoport says it’s worth monitoring in case they get an offer that’s too good to pass up.
Right now, the Panthers seem intent on keeping Samuel and the rest of their primary weapons in place for new quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. At the same time, the former second-round pick is heading into his contract year, so the Panthers could be swayed if they’re skittish about the cost of his next deal.
Samuel is coming off of a career year with 54 catches for 627 yards and six touchdowns. He’s also an excellent bargain: This year, he’s slated to earn just $1.2MM in salary.
The Panthers want to hold on to Samuel, but they haven’t let sentimentality get in the way this offseason. They’ve also got other receivers behind D.J. Moore, thanks to the signings of Robby Anderson, Seth Roberts, and Pharoh Cooper.
Moore, Samuel, and Anderson plus McCaffrey. Panthers don’t need to trade him.
Need to replace turner on the oline. But getting secondary help and adding a te wouldn’t hurt.
Getting rid of these young players just as they are reaching their full potential doesn’t make much sense to me. I guess some owners figure they are entitled to a free lunch on a player indefinitely.
With wr/rb they kinda are arent they?
If you were a Gm would you resign a rb after 5 years or just take a guy in rd 3 every 4 years?
Some fans are swallowing the kool-aid that RBs and WRs lack durability but I can assure you that the league will always have some productive veterans like Frank Gore, Adrian Peterson and Larry Fitzgerald around. If I’m a GM I am going to keep team morale high and attract free agents by rewarding performance. If a player is seeking fair market value after 5 yrs of being underpaid on a rookie deal he has every right to get that value if he has performed well.
I question the productivity more than the durability- Sure they could sell a couple extra jerseys but AP and Gore are not winning games for you
When you bring in the cap space it makes it an even easier call for me-
Its cutthroat but it is what it is, there is a cap and tackles and corners are getting more than ever Now, has to come from somewhere / you cant survive if your Qbs on their ass and their Wrs are running open like its 3rd grade recess
