Lately, there’s been chatter about Utah State quarterback Jordan Love finding his way into the upper half of the first round. But, from what Mike Garafolo and Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com (via Twitter) are hearing, it sounds like Love not hear his name called until the back end of Round 1.
Garafolo cautions that talk of “rising” and “falling” stocks are often misguided in the buildup to the draft, and he’s right. But, still, Garafolo doesn’t get the sense that Love has wowed evaluators during the process like Patrick Mahomes a few years back (Granted, Love has had to conduct most of his conversations via phone and video conference, which is always awkward.)
Recently, we heard that the Packers, Patriots, Saints, Dolphins, Chargers, and Redskins have all been doing their homework on Love. Thanks to his pure throwing motion, Love has put himself into the QB mix, somewhere behind presumptive No. 1 pick Joe Burrow. However, it doesn’t sound like he’s leapfrogged the rest of the field – he’ll probably have to wait until Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, and many non-QBs are taken before he’s picked.
Love turned in a 20-17 TD-INT ratio last season, a big drop-off from his 32-6 mark as a sophomore in 2018. That hasn’t stopped a number of head coaches from reaching out to Texas Tech coach Matt Wells — the former Utah State head coach — to learn more about Love, but it might keep him from being a top 15 or even top 32 choice.
Hey are there so many articles and hype about this overrated player lately?
Why.
You mean injury prone Tua?
No the guy that threw more interceptions last year than Tua did his career.
Because he has the tools to be the best player in this draft. You can’t teach raw talent and every team thinks they can get the best out of a guy.
Lol tools. I have a mitch to sell you oh great coach.
He reminds me of Dak Prescott. Could be a very good 2nd-3rd round pick.
He’s nothing at all like Dak
of9376 is just looking at skin tone. Nothing else is similar, besides position.
I thought Hurts game was more similar to Dak’s in college
He threw like 20 TDs and 20 INTs last year.
Think he’s a lock to go to the Pats late in the first
He’s not a Belichick type of quarterback; I’m still convinced that the closest thing to a Belichick guy in this draft is Jake Fromm
Herbert.
He threw so many picks because he was the only star on the team. He had to make things happen with little help. If he has weapons around him I see a ceiling of Prescott and a floor of Mariota
Jimmy Prescott and Bobby Mariota their not so famous cousins? He should be a 4th – 5th round pick, but for some reason somebody out there just keeps hyping him up.
Is this why Jameis threw 30 picks too..?
my only issue with these articles about Love and all the comments is the lack of attempting to want to know what changed from 2018 to 2019. very rarely does a qb go from from 32-6 to 20-17. pff does an extremely good article discussing it.. but still lack some basic thoughts that NFL teams look at. Love spent 3 years at Utah and had 3 different OCs, 2 different TE coaches, 2 different WR coaches, 3 different QB coaches. The amount of seniors and starters who left between 2018 and 2019 was described by Utah State HC as “much larger than usual” as multiple O-Lineman and receivers left for many reasons and a ton of defense. Im not trying to back him up and say I love Love, but everytime i read about his big “drop off”, the questions everyone should ask, (since this is what the NFL front offices have to judge), why? what happen? Should we base his potential off a Browns front office type offseason or base it off his play during familiarity and give diligence to his play without it. Is it an issue when he faced the lowest qb pressure he did well, in 2019 when it went up 7% he tanked? How much of that is him and how much is on entirely new O line, new weapons, worse defense, all with new coaches?
basically, if you want to talk about Love draft status, maybe we should discuss his potential and by doing so, go through every aspect of his play and what affects it. it isnt a one way street of TD/Int ratio and wins.
NFL teams can no longer control themselves. He will be gone by pick 14
Jordan Love has media infatuated as they’re looking for the next Mahomes. Newsflash, players like Mahomes come along once a decade. And his development was under Andy Reid, arguably the best developer of QBs since Bill Walsh?
Love’s work ethic is the question. Will he do what it takes to be GREAT. Needs to refine so many aspects of his game.
terribly overrated. if he cant adjust to roster turnover in college then how will he in the pros? and it’s not like he exactly lit the world on fire in 2018 either.
I think he’s gonna be fine. TUA is overrated and is gonna be a BUSTED watch it and believe.
At this point, Tua just has to make himself attractive enough to be picked in the first five picks and he’s financially set for life. If he’s able to stand up to the NFL contact or not doesn’t really matter. It’s not that he won’t play his best – or that his best is not more than good enough – but he may not be able to play at all within two years.
