It’s no secret that the Jets could use some help at wide receiver. And, with the No. 11 pick, they could have the opportunity to take CeeDee Lamb or Jerry Jeudy, who stand as the cream of a rich WR crop. Meanwhile, they also need to protect quarterback Sam Darnold (and his spleen), so they could opt for offensive line help in the first round. As Tom Pelissero of NFL.com tweets, the Jets have done their homework on this year’s top big men.

Before the travel restrictions, the Jets had dinner and a private workout with Georgia’s Andrew Thomas and Alabama’s Jedrick Wills, per Pelissero. He also hears that they’ve hosted Louisville’s Mekhi Becton on a top 30 visit and Zoom-chatted with Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs. They’re the four best offensive lineman in this year’s class, so there’s no guarantee that any of them will slip to Gang Green. Thomas has also garnered interest from the Dolphins (No. 5), Pelissero hears.
Of that quintet, Wirfs is widely viewed as the most NFL-ready. He also offers serious athleticism for his size (6’5″, 320 pounds), plus versatility. At Iowa, he played primarily at left and right tackle. Pro scouts also believe that he has the ability to move inside and play guard.
The top 10 already has teams in need of line help and other teams are contemplating trades to land one of this year’s best OLs. The Bucs and Broncos have serious interest in moving up the board and they could leapfrog the Jets on Thursday.
Jets should be eyeing Oline with majority of their picks.
1st they should take Tackle Becton, Thomas, or Wills
2nd they should take Center Hill or Humphrey
3rd they should take a receiver Pittman Jr, Tyler Johnson, Collin Johnson
3rd they should add DT Leki Fotu, Davon Hamilton, Benito Jones
4th they should take OL, even if it means convert to a guard Landon Dickerson (C), Solomon Kinsley, Logan Stenberg. Ezra Cleveland (T), Terrance Steele (OT)
5th you take another receiver like KJ Hill or Devin Duvernay
6th you take DLs. Christian Rector, McTelvin Agim, Malcom Roach, Chauncey Rivers, James Lynch.
Now that is a well thought out through mock draft. You really nailed it.
The Jets signed McGovern for C. Picked up Van Roten for G, still have Smith and Winters at G, and Harrison as back up C. think Jets going T for the O line. Need WR, LT, OLB, 2 CB
Yeah those arent impressive OL pickups. Same holes as before though C can wait another year this time, unlike last year (where they still didnt get one lol)
Ezra Cleveland in the 4th round? He’s going late first or early second. Long gone my friend. Same goes for Kinsley and Steele as well as both guys you listed for the fifth round. I also believe Pittman will go in the late second round.
I like your thinking but I don’t agree with everything your wrote but do agree they should prioritise a Tackle over a WR cause they can always take a WR later in a deep WR draft.
A WR from the 3/4th round is more likely to be a solid receiver than a 3/4th round tackle.
If you draft a tackle early your most likely got a future pro bowler and it means you’ve got a semi clean pocket for the next 10 years if everything goes well.
Receivers come and go and can be found later in drafts
big UGA fan here and man I hope Thomas doesn’t end up with the Jets…yes I’m hatin and I don’t care lol. Gase is the worst
Not hatin you are being honest
I don’t understand why Thomas has fallen to the fourth best among the big tackles. For the last year plus (until the combine) he was viewed as the best and a top 5 pick. I believe he still is the best. He’s certainly the most ready to plug in on the left side. I think that’s who the Giants want but prefer to trade down to get him. His balance issues are overblown. He’s a beast. Best all around tackle in the draft.
I hope all 4 tackles are gone and they’re forced to take Jeudy or Lamb.
They way they pick alm 9f them could be there and they still take the WR. Thats how the Giants are, bad oline for years and they never pick a tackle high.
Giants suck just as much as the jets but only the jets take the heat
I can see a path to trading down if the OT they don’t want as much is left at #11. Bucs at 14 might want that OT and Jets could still get a WR at 14 plus pick up extra pick(s). They could also possibly trade down again if WR they want is gone
Easier to say trade down than actually making it work. If teams don’t offer good value it’s not worth trading down to just to grab an extra 4th or 5th rounder
If they would of kept Anderson, they would not have to worry about getting a W/R. The Jets could have then moved to their desperate OL. I been a Jets fan for a long time, and it always Amaze me how they always screw things up.
Why are we assuming the Jets even have a draft plan. I expect them and the Dolphins to be sharing the magic 8 ball to make their selections.
