After not drafting a running back and seeing Jordan Howard defect to the Dolphins last month, the Eagles are bringing back a familiar face. They are re-signing Corey Clement, per Mike Garafolo of NFL.com (on Twitter). It’s a one-year deal.
The Eagles did not extend Clement an RFA tender in March but have agreed to terms to keep him in the fold. Clement has spent all three of his NFL seasons with the Eagles, arriving in Philadelphia as a 2017 UDFA and making some notable contributions in Super Bowl LII.
Clement went down with a shoulder injury last season, leading the Eagles to place him on IR. He ended the 2018 season on IR as well. While Clement caught a touchdown pass in Super Bowl LII and took the snap that ended up being the Eagles’ “Philly Special” play, he should not be considered a lock to make the 2020 team. He did not log a carry in four games last season.
However, the Eagles saw Howard leave in free agency and Darren Sproles retire. Philly has Clement, Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, Elijah Holyfield and two UDFA rookies in its running back group presently.
If he’s healthy he could be a nice contributor, change of pace back. Showed well catching ball out of the backfield during the 2017 postseason. Welcome back Corey!
Nice. I’ll take a rotation of Sanders, Scott and Clement.
I’d add Holyfield in the mix somehow if you have to subtract from someonelse, he’ll surprise you guys….but please Eagles have a primary back for once and make it Miles Sanders! He was a beast the second half…
agreed…tired of rotating backs…just ride sanders!
I love him too but Scott and Clement are solid too.
I would definitely add Holyfield to the mix as well. The kid’s a battler. The Eagles don’t look bad at running back.
I think a rotation is just the game at this point. Very little one back teams left. The RB career is just too short as it is and teams try to prolong the talent as long as possible.
Welcome back! Loved him in Super Bowl LII
welcome back Corey Clement. it’s going to be great seeing number 30 back on the field again this year
Thank God our RB3 is back! I do not trust Elijah Holyfield as the 3rd back at all. I wish we had some solid reinforcement at RB3 (because we know that Sanders and Scott are at the top of the chart at RB obviously) but now I want Clement to hold it down and secure it.
I wanted us to go into the regular season with only 3 RBs but there are early predictions that Michael Warren will be RB4 for us, and I also forgot that we had De’Angelo Henderson in our PS. I wanted to let Henderson get a chance on our 55 man roster but looks like he’s destined to either be on our PS, some other team’s PS, or some other team’s 55 man roster… Just like another person who I wanted to give a shot, Kyle Lauletta. I wanted Lauletta to be QB3 behind Wentz and Sudfeld but now there’s no way Lauletta gets on the 55 man now, with Hurts in tow. And then we had to go sign Khalil Tate as a UDFA… I wanted to see him get some chances on the team too… Smh. Oh well, I guess.
thank goodness. this guy is great when healthy and well underrated by the media here.
He can contribute on offense and special teams and knows the system. No harm bringing him back.
