The Bears jumped up 23 spots in Round 5 to draft Tulane wide receiver Darnell Mooney. In exchange for sliding down into the sixth round, the Eagles acquired two additional selections in this draft.
Philadelphia will receive Chicago’s Nos. 200 and 233 overall picks, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets.
Mooney will follow Notre Dame tight end Cole Kmet as pass-catching weapons coming to Chicago. Mooney saw action in all four of his Green Wave seasons, topping out with a 993-yard, eight-touchdown junior slate in 2018. That season, Mooney averaged 20.8 yards per catch.
The Bears released Taylor Gabriel earlier this offseason did not address the area in free agency or during the first two days of the draft. Although Chicago selected Riley Ridley last year, its Saturday trade points to having some notable plans for Mooney.
What is this idiot pace doing…we have 3 holes on the oline that have not been addressed in free agency or the draft, this receiver wasn’t even projected to be drafted what a moron
There are plenty of draft experts that had Mooney higher on their boards than where the Bears took him.
I’d have preferred O-Line hell, but Mooney was not really a stretch.
Failure to address the O-line in the 2nd round doesn’t mean you can address it in the 5th. As a Raider fan, we didn’t get an IDL that i wanted, but that doesn’t mean that Simpson wasn’t a good pick.
Exactly Joe. Christ 3 5th picks but Pace could not find any value of the OL in any of them?
@parx
You answered your own question when you said Pace was an idiot. He keeps proving it over and over.
but Mooney isn’t even a TE…what was Pace thinking?! ahahaha
You can never have enough DBs, or apparently, TEs. But I have an issue here as well. I know they needed a TE, but they also needed a good OL more.
no they don’t need another TE!….they literally have 10 TEs on the roster after yesterday. Craziness lol
9 of them aren’t NFL players. They absolutely need a TE.
even worse if they’re wasting 9 roster spots on TEs that aren’t NFL talent…that’s pretty bad
Maybe they could convert to O Line? Hard to figure what is going on here.
Yea Joe probably could have used 2 OL at least
Pace got 2 OL in the 7th.
Yup but everyone overreacts before the draft is even over per usual. Ended up with 2 OL anyways
7th round OL does not mean anything they need GOOD OL players. People who can start. You ate not getting that in the 7th rounds as anyone who is going to help this year
Got some bad news for you. If you want a starting LT you better have a top 10 pick in the first round to get him. There weren’t any Guards in this draft that could start after the 22nd pick in the draft. 8 of the TEs on the roster wouldn’t make another team in the league. One of the other TEs is old and slow. Quantity at a position doesn’t mean quality.
You’re not getting that from linemen outside of the first round either. We needed 2 plug and play starters and we got that. How many teams have potentially 2 top shutdown cbs?
You draft for value, not need, in the draft. If the linemen were not good values, you don’t draft them.
I agree but i do not think the players they took are good and there were OL with grades justifying oicks in the 5th round.
Just because Pace did not see it does not mean there was no one of value worth taking.
The track record with Pace’s judgment on talent indicates such.
So again the Bears blew if by not taking OL earlier when there was OL available with value equal to the higher rounds AND better then the garbage they drafted on day 3.
You do not pass on need picks unless the non need pick is such a better value. Pace has no clue
Javon Johnson was the 4th CB in the draft. Kmet is the only TE in the draft worth drafting. You’re not going to bench 2 tackles who make $20,000,000 of guaranteed money and the guards in this draft suck. We needed to fix the TE position and get a CB. We did that and people still whine.
I really concerned with the picks we made versus Detroit’s and Minnesota. We might be back in the cellar for a while.
Minnesota’s first 2 picks were to replace all-pros at the same position. Detroit replaced a good cb with their first pick.
Some decent OL are getting cut by teams the bears should pick some of them up
