Linked to quarterbacks at No. 5 throughout the pre-draft process (and connected to a 2020 first-round passer before the 2019 draft), the Dolphins are now believed to have a top-five tackle in sight. A report earlier Wednesday indicated Miami is interested in moving up to No. 3 for a tackle. However, the Dolphins are not conceding that they will have to give up their No. 5 pick to do so.
Instead of dealing the fifth overall pick to move up for the third, the Dolphins are trying to work out a deal that will allow them to acquire No. 3 and keep No. 5, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald notes. Only one team in the past 19 years — the 2018 Browns — has made two top-five picks in the same draft.
The Dolphins have spoken with the Lions about a move. Miami signed ex-top-10 tackle Ereck Flowers but will play him at guard; the team features a major need at tackle. Climbing to No. 3 would put the Dolphins in position to draft the best one — ahead of the likely tackle-seeking Giants at No. 4. The Dolphins have an interesting ammo arsenal to try and obtain two top-five picks, holding the Nos. 18 and 26 selections and two second-round choices.
Acquiring the No. 3 pick without giving up No. 5 would open the door to the Dolphins drafting a tackle and a quarterback. The latest out of Miami has pointed back to Tua Tagovailoa — after a stream of Justin Herbert buzz. The Dolphins taking a tackle at 3, however, opens the door to the Giants then holding an auction for any team wanting to climb ahead of Miami’s No. 5 pick to land Tagovailoa.
In addition to eyeing left tackles atop the draft, the Dolphins are interested in a right tackle. Dolphins GM Chris Grier likes Andrew Thomas at left tackle and his ex-Georgia teammate, Isaiah Wilson, Jackson adds. Wilson is viewed as a second-round-level talent.
So giving up 18, 26 this year and number one next year?
Well according to the draft value charts 18 and 26 already have similar value to the 3rd overall pick, but obvi teams have to overpay when ur dealing with the top of the draft. That being said I think adding one of Miami’s multiple 2nd and 5th round picks would make the Lions listen in a draft this deep (18, 26, 56 and 173)
Lions won’t listen to that. Quinn isn’t that dumb.
Nah
Just offer rosen….that plus a 7th and that should be good.
You’re kidding right? Rosen and a seventh round or for the number three overall pick? You are either A Dolphins fan or completely out of your mind The only way this works is if they offer the other two first rounders they have that is the only way they get the three and keep your five..
Goldenmisfit
Sarcasm isn’t your thing is it
Lol…
If you weren’t aware that he was attempting to make a funny then you my friend have issues!
O’Brien would be all over this
I don’t understand how goldenmisfit thinks that the Rosen and a 7th round pick is that bad. The only thing worse might be he thought anyone and I mean even the diehard Browns fans that thinkJohnny Mayfield is a great QB missed that sarcasm.
How many Browns fans will stop reading there and tell me it is Baker? Misfit will probably say it is Manziel.
I am only kidding Browns fans. I actually admire you. We had some bad runs but nothing like this. You have remained true with little payback for many years. Much like us Mariner fans.
The Lions GM and coach are getting whacked if they dont compete for the playoffs no way they do that. If they do they should get whacked immediately
Stafford to Chargers with Lions getting 6th pick and so on from Dolphins besides Rosen.
The 6th pick for Stafford… no
Stupid
If the pull it off, just draft Herbert and Tua. One of them is sure to pan out.
More sarcasm? Miami needs a top level tackle badly
I’m not familiar with the Dolphins cap space, but wouldn’t it be easier to deal a 2nd rounder for Trent Williams?
Here my final “Rockin’ Randy’s 2020 NFL Mock Draft”
1. Joe Wheel Borrows
2. Chase Young
3. Tua Tongue
4. Jeff Okudah
5. Meki Becton
Don’t do it….
Draft a Tua at 5, McKinney at 18 if available otherwise take a WR like Jefferson or Ruggs, then at 26 take Delpit or Winfield if you missed McKinney otherwise take a WR then like Higgins, Shenault or Aiyuk.
Dolphins have a really solid team and also have a few obvious holes. QB RB WR S and OT all need filling.
Spend the first around addressing QB S and WR. Then in the second round and third grad a OT and RB and your all set …
A really solid team except for the offense apparently
Ruggs won’t be available at 18th but McKinney might.
Well…. Tua and Fitzmagic would be solid WB duo. I’d draft a RB in the second/third round to share the job with Jordan Howard who is decent. At WR you have Parker and the WR your taken from the first round.
At TE you already have Gesicki who is nice, then at O line you already have some bits. I said to draft a tackle or guard in the second to already go with Davenport, Flowers and Karras.
I like their defence, then you have this for an offence I think your got a solid young team. Probably win 6/7 games next year and as everyone gets older and improves they will get better
5 wins lol
Simmons,
Your a fool dolphins suck. Draft 2 Qb !
Your the biggest idiot on this page really don’t see how you haven’t been banned or something
Simmons,
I’m the idiot you cheer for the Dolphins and want Tua. If you don’t like it don’t respond. Enjoy if they get him and he flops or enjoy watching him slide in the draft.
Million % agree you dont trade a dime to move up but i differ in my picks-
If Im Mia I go
5- Simmons
18 Mckinney
26 Ruiz
39 Isiah washington
56 Best Rb avail (if one doesnt fall Pitman)
70- Best Wr avail or take a nice Guard
2021 Lawerence or Fields walks into 3 new OL a new
Rb, new Wr to pair with Parker, 2 1st rd picks 2 seconds and the best secondary in Nfl with Mckinney now on the back end and Simmons roaming the middle –
Dont play scared Mia, the board will fall to you if you let it, this is a 2 yr plan here Remember that tommorow
I don’t think not taking at QB is a good decision. But risky what happens if Dolphins win 6 games and don’t have a selection next year until 10th. Lawrence I think is a lock for #1 and fields will be top 10.
Tua is a solid QB but a little banged up but Fitzmagic is a solid back up who could play as long as Tua wants to rest
Fields !
They have a great shot of someone getting 1 that doesnt need a Qb as well- Then they have 2 first and 2 seconds to deal from but yea the tank would be on but good luck losing out to the Jags !!
Just think this is a 2 year plan and Im not coming out the end w Tua or Herb so im waiting/gamblin
Lmao with these stupid posts about Lions trading Stafford. The Ford family is your classic rich old white GOP family. Stafford is not leaving until contract up. Miami is hoping CY will drop or they’ll plan for the future. Might as well draft QB for rookie contract and stack players around him with their multiple draft picks
All they have to do is trade up to 7 and they can get the tackle.
How to persuade the Lions to do this? Easy…go to Belichek, acquire multiple washed up about to be cut Patriots, and dangle them in front of Quinn and Patricia.
Trade for it and draft 2 QB’s think outside the box.
Wouldn’t be the 1st time a team drafted 2 quarterbacks in the same draft. Redskins did it with RG3 and Kirk Cousins. Or bring in 2 rookies in the same year like Denver in 83 trading for John Elway and drafting Gary Kubiak.
I forgot about that!!
“Miami signed ex-top-10 tackle Ereck Flowers”
What planet was he ever a top 10 tackle on? He was absolutely atrocious with the Giants and only became somewhat serviceable on the Redskins after switching to guard. Here’s his Pff positional ranking every season of his career: 59th, 70th, 67th, 65th, 64th. He’s consistently been one of the worst offensive linemen in all of football. I don’t even understand how he’s still in the league.
Nevermind, I just realized you probably meant his draft slot.
One benefit of having Flowers is that a OL coach can point at him and say to the rookies: “Watch this guy carefully so you can learn all the things NOT to do”.
