It took us until the 13th pick to get our first trade, and despite a lot of speculation it looks like the Lions and Giants were never that close to moving down.
Neither the Dolphins nor Chargers ever made offers for the third or fourth picks, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. In hindsight, it looks like the Lions and Giants were trying to trade down and were attempting to inflate the interest. There was a lot of talk that either Miami or Los Angeles would try to leap up to take a passer, but both stood pat and ended up getting their quarterbacks of the future anyway.
Schefter notes that the Dolphins and Chargers were always content to stay where they were. Miami of course took Tua Tagovailoa, while Los Angeles drafted Justin Herbert. The Lions nabbed cornerback Jeff Okudah after being unable to find a trade partner, while the Giants picked Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas. The draft has been quieter than expected so far, and it seems like there was an overwhelming supply of teams looking to move down, with a very limited demand of teams looking to move up.
Cause they knew the Lions and Giants weren’t taking a QB lmao.
Yes, but if the chargers or dolphins really wanted a particular QB they could have jumped up. To block each other, or maybe prevent the Jags from leaping them. Lots of possibilities.
Jaguars weren’t taking a QB, especially if they meant trading up and giving picks.
Minshew did just fine last year. He needs to cut down on the fumbles but all his other numbers were good.
Give him a full season to prove he’s the guy.
So far only one Trade and nothing interesting other then NFL Network guys on ESPN.
All the network guys on other networks!
Mass confusion!
Very boring.
Gamesmanship!
The Dolphins were loaded with Draft Capital and could have easily outspent any other team to move up. The Chargers and Dolphins both hedged that there would not be two teams trading up to move into the 3rd and 4th positions, therefore they laid back.and each got what they wanted.
With no available draft partner the Lions took the safest choice. Now we get to see the Patricia genius at work.
JeanYus is taking the safe choice… and going 9-22-1…
“Genius” is selling whatever it takes to get what it is that you need to win a SuperBowl…
All you’re doing is marketing him for his NEXT Defensive Coordinator job….
Was there really some urgency that would necessitate the Dolphins and Chargers trading up? Both teams are going to be high on the board for the foreseeable future anyway.
My point is, there was nobody to trade down to. No offers. Per DG and backed up by Schefter. They drafted the most pro ready tackle (as touted by Paul Alexander and praised by Gil Brandt) and the #1 safety on the board. What else could you possibly want? If you are not sure who Paul Alexander is, look him up.
