The biggest names in NFL free agency might be off the board, but there are still plenty of noteworthy players on the board and high-profile cuts on the way. And, while some teams did their spending early, others are still sitting on lots of cash.
The latest cap figures from OverTheCap show that several teams are poised to pounce in the latter waves of free agency, starting with the Browns. The numbers also show that teams like the Rams still have work to do in order to sign their upcoming draft class. Also, the Eagles’ 2020 figure doesn’t quite tell the whole story – thanks to high-priced multi-year deals including Darius Slay’s new contract, they’re already overcommitted on dollars for 2021.
Here’s the complete rundown for all 32 teams, in descending order of cap space:
- Browns – $40.2MM
- Lions – $29.5MM
- Eagles – $27.1MM
- Colts – $24MM
- Dolphins – $23.9MM
- Redskins – $23.8MM
- Chargers – $22.3MM
- Titans – $21.5MM
- Bills – $20.9MM
- Texans – $18.6MM
- Broncos – $17.5MM
- Giants – $17.1MM
- Jets – $15.5MM
- Jaguars – $14.6MM
- Cowboys – $13.6MM
- Buccaneers – $13.5MM
- 49ers – $13.4MM
- Seahawks – $12.6MM
- Vikings – $12.3MM
- Ravens – $11.3MM
- Packers – $11.08MM
- Bears – $11.03MM
- Panthers – $9.4MM
- Raiders – $8.8MM
- Bengals – $7.3MM
- Steelers – $7.2MM
- Cardinals – $7MM
- Saints – $5.3MM
- Chiefs – $2.9MM
- Falcons – $2.4MM
- Patriots – $1.2MM
- Rams – (-$5.3MM)
I’m shocked the Bears have so much room.
Me too. That defense is aging quick and they have zero quality weapons on offense.
They need to load up in the draft. Oline, WR, Oline, QB the first four picks. If the Bears don’t take a QB late they’re dumber than I thought. If Foles opts out we have no QB in 2021.
A couple of weeks ago, the Chiefs were at $177.00, so this is improvement.
Yeah, and it’s nice to see that the Vikings have picked up quite a bit of cap space since the end of the season.
Even though they took a big cap hit trading Diggs?
If memory serves, we still saved between $3 and $4.5 million this year even eating the $9 million dead cap hit.
Thanks Diggs BYE DIGGS go cry on someone else time BIG FRICKEN CRYBABY best trade so far this year”SKOL VIKINGS “
Lol what
This is officially the most denial driven thing I’ve read this month.
Man, the Rams took two massive cap hits this year…..
Which may be why Snead might be on his way out
Saints better win it all this year, because with little cap room, aging vets, and average drafts the past couple of years, it’s going to be bleak after Brees retires…
Master of the obvious on that statement
Browns with all that cap space should trade a third round pick for Trent Williams to just make that O line stronger.
Williams Bitonio Conklin would be tough
Then in the draft the only real positions to fill would be LB and S, both of which you probably don’t address with your first pick (10).
I’d suggest trading down with the Dolphins.
Swap picks 10, 41 for picks 18, 26 and 141.
Dolphins would get 2 picks in the top 10 and 3 picks in the second round. This means they get Tua or Herbert and address their o line. Then with the seconds can fill out the roster.
Browns on the other hand tho can address there two areas of need, by getting Xavier McKinney at S and Kenneth Murray at LB.
Browns you’d think would then be a playoff threat and Dolphins would be starting their rebuild well
they still need a qb
Good one
(insert face palm)
The Brown have had 26 picks across the past 3 drafts including 5 first round picks. Their problem like other perpetual cellar teams is poor drafting.
good take
Playoffs and Browns shouldn’t be in the same sentence
Fan should remember that the salary cap is a “soft” cap (think marshmallow). There are plenty of ways teams seemingly in a tight spot can manipulate contracts so they don’t have to make any major sacrifices.
It’s usually by pushing cap hits into future years. The bill always comes due, the teams count on an increasing cap limit to let this play out. It’s kind of like the National Debt. Of course if you happen to win a Super Bowl with your trickery, you don’t care. Had the Rams beaten NE in the Super Bowl, they wouldn’t care about their cap condition so much, neither would the fans.
The NFL has one of the hardest cap in sports. If you want soft cap, look at the NBA, where teams can consistently be tens of millions of dollars over the cap for years.
Do the Browns still have a need at Safety after signing Karl Joseph?
