Rumored off-and-on as a trade candidate, Stefon Diggs has emerged on this front again. The Seahawks are interested, with Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times tweeting interest has emerged on both sides in a potential Diggs deal. Diggs himself added a lot of fuel to the fire shortly after this report emerged, cryptically tweeting “it’s time for a new beginning.”
Diggs dissatisfaction with his role on Minnesota’s offense led to 2019 trade rumors, but the Vikings squashed that and depended on their well-paid wideout the rest of the season. Adam Thielen‘s injury thrust Diggs to the top of the Vikings’ aerial pecking order. But the Vikings have two receivers making $14MM-plus annually, with Diggs at $14.4MM per year and Thielen now north of $16MM on average.
Reports of drama with Diggs percolated throughout 2019. The wide receiver wasn’t happy with his role early on in the season and even after he eased up on some of his comments, many still believed that he wanted out. The Vikings, meanwhile, said they’d smooth things out. Right now, it looks like he could be on his way to another NFC contender.
Diggs, on the verge of his age-27 season, is signed through 2023 thanks to his five-year, $72MM extension. Last year, he caught 63 passes for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns. He was targeted just 94 times – down from his 149 targets in 2018 – but he was more efficient than ever as he averaged 17.9 yards per catch.
that was a fake account..
It’s his confirmed account
check again boss
Yeah I did, the check mark means confirmed account. Not sure wtf you’re looking at.
i’m talking about bob condotta not diggs
whole article based around a fake tweet
Yea…. it’s literally a fake tweet.
@SeahawkBanners reported it
@bcondotta did not report it
One guy has 68k follower, the other has 539 you do the math.
Eagles should look this way. If a 2nd would get it done, let’s pull the trigger.
It won’t. A first might, or a first and change, like the Harvin trade – 1st, 7th, future 3rd – got us.
The Pats should try to trade a 1st and 2nd for Diggs and Rudolph. Getting those kinds of weapons would help them re-sign Brady.
Seattle need pass rushers and secondary help.
Seattle has been trying to poach Diggs for awhile now. I think they should focus on there D-Line first.
Although I find this trade highly unlikely trading for Diggs doesn’t mean they’re not focusing on their D-line. It would just mean they’re likely not signing Clowney. Helluva WR Corp if they do sign SD. Personally I thought they’d find a WR3 in this years draft.
I guess that cap space money the Seahawks have is going to be wasted on a WR when they truly need DL and OL help… SMH…
Diggs was unsuccessful on 33% of his targets.
How many of those 31 misses were due to,
The opposition’s defense,
The Viking Quarterback,
Diggs himself ?
He had several dropped balls, which was unusual for him and three times his 2018 drop rate. He also fumbled the ball for the first time since his rookie season, and did it four times. Otherwise, his 67% catch rate was right in line with his 2017 (67.4%) and 2018 (68.5%) seasons.
But let’s not forget that that average of 17.9 yards per catch was not only by far the highest of his career, but was based on an average depth of target that was also by far the highest of his career, 12.9 yards, four whole yards higher than his 2017 average target depth, and an even more insane six whole yards than his 2018 target depth, easily the lowest of his career.
So, increased depth of target and some extra mental lapses on Diggs’ part were probably the main factors causing any increase in unsuccessful targets in 2019.
Reminds me of when we traded Sidney Rice to the Seahawks. Not apposed to trading Diggs but only for a 1st round pick.
Go ahead and trade Diggs, it won’t really make the Vikings worse when they run as much as they do and a decent return might even make it seem worth it.
