Jadeveon Clowney may end up back in Seattle after all. ProFootballTalk.com’s Mike Florio is hearing that the two sides are “moving toward a new deal” (Twitter link).
The pass rusher was initially seeking $20MM per season, and he was reportedly disappointed at the lack of suitors. The 27-year-old has since changed his asking price to a more palatable one- or two-year deal, and he’s presumably had to lower his financial demands, as well.
The Seahawks have continually been linked to the pass-rusher, and there were whispers that the organization had extended a contract offer. That deal didn’t match Clowney’s requirements for salary or length, and the player was seeking another suitor with the hope of driving up the price.
We later learned that the Cowboys were one of the teams that wouldn’t be pursuing the defensive end. Earlier this month, the Giants and Colts were both said to have interest in Clowney, but they’ve since addressed their needs.
Clowney posted just three sacks in 2019, but he was still effective against opposing passers and running backs. For his work, Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 20th best edge defender in the NFL.
No disrespect to who wrote the article…but the Giants have not filled their pass rush needs, they have just neglected it, because gettleman is a moron.
No disrespect to you Dave or any Giants fans but Clowney is on record saying he only wants to play for a playoff contender. However, that was said at a time when he thought he’d get at least the same annual money as D Buckner. Money, and loads of it has a way of influencing a man’s career. Who knows D? He might be a G-man yet
No disrespect taken, my point was Giants haven’t filled their pass rush needs, i doubt clowney will sign with them, and i read at first he wanted a contender but he also liked the Giants, so who knows i think going back to seattle is a good thing for him, but as a sad Giants fan I’d love a guy like clowney on the D-Line.
Last night I watched the replay of the 2019 MNF victory over the undefeated 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. On Veterans Day I sat in my action green next to my 49ers season ticket holding friend in a sea of red just 20 rows up from where Clowney ran into the corner of the EZ. What an experience! If we get a healthy JC who’s half the man he was that game I’d be content. IMO He and Jarran Reed won that game for Seattle. Fingers crossed we have them both signed for at least the next 2 years. Yeeeeesssss!
6 mil a year
2 year 40 mil guaranteed
In his dreams
2 years, $35 million with incentives to get to $40MM. Incentives based on games played and sacks.
This from 3 hrs ago- Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune reported Hawks have offered Clowney $18.5 M per year
Clowney would be stupid not to accept that
Depends on if its guaranteed.
I have no objection to around 20mil/yr
But fully guaranteed is where we differe
Gitrdone
Wow what’s the weather like there is 2001?
Well with everyone staying home, the air quality is about the same as 2001
….what?
“What’s the weather like there is 2001” is 2001? You mean in? If you are going to be critical of people all the time maybe deliver your “drop ins” correctly. Otherwise you look quite ironically ridiculous.
Zing!
Although his numbers aren’t super sexy, he’s VERY disruptive and double teamed
Take it for what’s its worth- Read this on Instagram in a thread under Mike Florio’s JC rumor. “Only Aaron Donald was double teamed more than JC yet he was still top 5 in Disruption Rate.” Hard to take people seriously when they discount JC’s talent by saying he sucks he only had 3 sacks. JJ Watt is a beast, super talented, good guy etc but no way he’s as successful w/o JC’s dbl teams.
JJ Watt will be remembered as one of the best defensive players in the history of the NFL. Clowney still trying to figure out how to beat double teams. At times, Watt was being triple teamed when they played on the Texans together.
Clowney played for the Seahawks last year, so double team stats from last year don’t apply to JJ Watt’s performance anyway… it’s kind of silly to compare Watt to Clowney. Watt, in his heyday, was better than Donald and Mack. Three DPOY awards is historic, Clowney barley makes the pro bowl every year.
JB19: Didn’t compare- I made 2 points, feel free to read them again. I said 1) Clowney was dbl teamed more than any player in 2019 bar A Donald. Although injured he still managed to be a menace. And 2) JJ Watt is an amazing player, a legend. Watt’s statistics were helped by having Clowney next to him. Comparison? I think not
To be a Clowney believer, all you have to do is compare the Seahawks defensive stats from before they got Clowney, to after. Sacks aren’t everything, in fact Seattle doesn’t focus on them…they focus on disruption…Clowney is a beast…he completely changes the game…he is a master disrupter.
He sucks, he only had 3 sacks.
So, he only had 3 sacks, big deal…he completely changes the game when he is in…he doesn’t need sacks to be super effective.
I just wish Clowney would get signed so we can move on…
