The second incarnation of the XFL didn’t make it a full season due to COVID-19, but before that things had been going surprisingly well. Things were much smoother than in the ill-fated AAF, and some players are already starting to reap the benefits.
The Seahawks, Cardinals, and Broncos have all reached out to the Houston Roughnecks to express interest in their quarterback P.J. Walker, a source told Mark Berman of FOX 26 (Twitter link). XFL players are allowed to sign with the NFL starting Monday morning, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com tweets, and it sounds like Walker could get scooped up pretty quickly.
The Temple product signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2017, and spent most the next three years on their practice squad. Walker became one of the first stars of Vince McMahon’s upstart league, as he led the Roughnecks to a perfect 5-0 start before the rest of the season was cancelled.
In those five games Walker had 1,338 yards and 15 touchdowns, leading the league in both categories. Now we see why Indianapolis kept bringing him back each offseason. All three of the interested teams won’t be looking at Walker as anything more than a backup, but he could make for a good reserve option as all three have similarly athletic and mobile starters.
I’d love to see Dallas bring in a developmental type guy like this to back-up instead Cooper Rush who is a complete donut.
No doubt. I’d like to see that too.
He made it look easy.
He doesn’t need development, he needs a chance to play
Size no longer matters now that Kyler broke the glass ceiling
Um…… Russell Wilson broke that “glass ceiling” long before Murray.
Russell Wilson has a sturdy build, like a mini-linebacker. Drew Brees would be a better example. It’s not clear how long these fragile small quarterbacks will last (Kyler Murray, Tua). Might just be flavour of the day (RGIII).
Anyone who followed the XFL knows there was PJ Walker, and then there was everyone else.
I hope they still do awards.. hed be MVP easy
Out of those 3, Broncos is the best place for him to get playing time. Id like to see him get a shot and see what he has. He killed it in the XFL and was fun to watch. I get to watch Lamar Jackson play every week and PJ plays like him.
He won’t play ahead of Drew Lock.
Drew Lock is no doubt the starter.
True but if Lock Starts to struggle im sure they would turn to him to see what he has. But maybe NE wouldn’t be a bad option. I think lots of teams could bring him in to mimic Lamar. He might not be Lamar but he definitely had some moves
Pats should be on this if they dont want to draft a QB
I’d love to see him with the Jaguars. I’m curious to see how he’d look as a starter, and pretty much every team either has a cemented starter or can easily get one in the draft.
I’m rooting for Minshew, but Walker could be a fit in the event that Minshew has a sophomore slump or if last year ended up being a mirage.
Walker’s got ‘Hawks written all over him.
Cards…. He’s the perfect backup to Murray. Kingsbury will probably come up with a package of plays that put them both on the field at the same time. Huge believer in what they r doing in AZ.
Chargers should be all over this.
Rivers is gone. All they have currently is Tyrod Taylor and are most likely drafting Herbert or Love.
Walker could be a 2 year stop gap while Herbert and Love learn.
Rodgers had time under Favre. Rivers had time under Brees. Brady had time under Bledsoe.
Letting a young QB sit can be beneficial.
Yea definitely. More teams should take the sit and learn approach. It has worked alot and i think the Chargers could definitely use him. Maybe even the Dolphins or NE. I think a team should take a chance. Hell have the Saints or TB bring him in and learn from Brees or Brady. Walker was fun to watch
I have a feeling that if the Broncos lose this lottery they will sign Landry Jones as a consolation prize.
I think a consolation prize would be Nate Stanley.
