While most of the the NFL’s top free agents have already come off the board, one still resides on the open market. Jadeveon Clowney, viewed as arguably the best available, non-franchise-tagged edge defender, still hasn’t found a new club, and reports of interest around the league have been few and far between.
Clowney had been (and still may be) seeking a $20MM annual salary, but it’s unclear if any club is willing to meet that asking price. The 27-year-old is now reportedly open to a one- or two-year pact, as Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported Wednesday, adding that many around the NFL now believe Clowney will re-sign with the Seahawks.
Speaking on NFL Network earlier today, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero indicated Clowney does have an offer on the table from Seattle, but it doesn’t meet the pass-rusher’s requirements for salary or length. Clowney, meanwhile, is reportedly hoping that rival clubs will express interest and pressure the Seahawks into raising their offer.
Seattle is likely proposing something in the range of $17-19MM per year, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, who adds Clowney’s health issues are likely a factor in his weak market. While Clowney’s January core muscle surgery typically wouldn’t be viewed as much of a barrier to a deal, COVID-19 restrictions currently prevent him from taking a proper physical.
Come to the NYG!!!
Please don’t…would be massive overpay
They don’t have anywhere near the cap space. They have about $12 million in space and still have the draft ahead of them.
Is “they” the Seahawks or Giants?
It is not Seattle they had over $40 mill before FA signing started not sure about now but Reed is the biggest name they signed I believe. Could be missing one the mind goes as age creeps up on you.
I’m responding to a comment that mentions only the Giants and not the Seahawks. So. . . I am referring to the Giants.
The best for him is to go back to Seattle
He will end up on a 2 year deal 20 million guaranteed loaded with incentives & games played. Lions need him but not at that price. If he wants a 3 year 50 million & 25 million guaranteed, that could work.
He turned down a reported 80 to 90 million from the Texans before he was traded. Wonder if he regrets it as much as the Texans missed him.
But then he would have to deal with Bill O’Brien, so probably not.
Miami or the new D power in Las Angeles Chargers.
More of these bet on myself holdouts not panning out. Works every so often, more for QBs. But if you don’t ball out you’re SOL. When you sign these 5 yr deals you just gotta be good in even years so they’re dumb enough to keep you around.
Probably because QBs get hurt less, heck the rules are there to guarantee that. Also teams are more willing to overlook a QB injury.
Would be funny if he went to Miami. Traded Tunsil for 2 1sts and a 2nd and still ended up with Clowney? They have 53M in cap space left.
Sign Clowney and 1 of Cam Newton/Jameis Winston. Add some more depth like a Nigel Bradham-type low risk LB.
Trade Rosen.
Trade the 5th pick for 12 and 19 (Raiders). Fill the roster out with a top-flight WR and trade some of these picks for 2021 picks to draft Lawrence in 21.
Trevor Lawrence is the first pick in the 2021 draft. If the Dolphins with no talent won 5 games last year added all the players you’re saying they should the they won’t be landing Lawrence. It really wouldn’t make sense for them to add Clowney unless they know they’re adding a higher upside QB in this draft.
Tua was the projected 1st overall pick in this year’s draft too….Matt Leinart in 2006. Things happen.
If they push some of their 1st rounders into 2021 they’d have enough ammo to trade-up. May take a Herschel Walker/Ricky Williams trade.
How did all of those Herschel Walker/Ricky Williams/RGIII trades work out for the club trading up?
Hint: not every well.
true even when the browns moved up for brady quinn and etc .. so far the only one that has worked out that comes to mind is the texans and watson.
The Raiders aren’t trading the 12th and 19th picks for the 5th. It doesn’t make sense for them to trade up with so many needs still.
Who knows what Chucky will do. That is a fair trade-up scenario though from a pick standpoint.
Yes I agree a overpay but NYG need a great player on defense since they refused to tank more and lost out on Chase Young. Daniel Jones will wish Chase wasn’t on Washington for the next decade or more
Mr. Clowney – Dallas Keuchel is on line one for you…
Good one lol
idk why he reminds me so much of mario williams
Come to Tampa!
