Longtime Eagles LT Jason Peters is open to playing right tackle if it will help him land a job, as Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network tweets. Peters graded out as the No. 6 overall tackle in 2019 per Pro Football Focus’ advanced metrics, but he is still looking for work as we hit the second wave of free agency.
Of course, part of that is due to Peters’ advanced age. He turned 38 in January, so teams in need of an OT are likely trying to see if there are longer-term options available. At this point, it’s fair to wonder if Peters will need to wait until after the draft to find a new club.
But he will certainly be playing somewhere in 2020. Over a remarkable 16-year career, Peters has accumulated nine Pro Bowl nods, two First Team All-Pro bids, and a Super Bowl ring. He has played on the right side before, and it would probably not be too difficult for him to move back to RT if necessary.
The Buccaneers, who are clearly all-in on bringing home a championship in 2020, could see Peters as a win-now option at RT, and while the Browns filled their right tackle vacancy by signing Jack Conklin to a massive free agent deal, Cleveland’s LT job is still wide open. The Chargers also profile as a potential landing spot.
Jason Peters would be an upgrade to just about any team. Doesn’t help that the draft is loaded with OTs.
Upgrade at just what price, and given that he’s a 16 year veteran, and exactly given his age of 38 does he start to break down regardless of left side or right side…agree with the comments below that the draft is pretty flush with offensive line candidates who while unproven are most likely are vastly cheaper and of course younger.
Based on all above, he could get scooped up in a few minutes or last until the next round of free agency (round 3)! Depends on the team that’s potentially interested.
Gotta wonder what kinda money he’s aiming for…
Bills, Bucs, Browns, and Jets should all be in on him
As a Bills fan, I’d be happy to see him sign and play RT. Then kick Ford inside to RG.
Dawkins-Spain-Morse-Ford-Peters
That’d be a good look.
I hope they don’t. The Bills made him into a tackle. converting him from a DT, then he screwed them and left.
Other than the actual facts he was a TE converted to LT and Buffalo traded him to Philly for a 1st, 4th and 6th round pick you seem to got the rest right…SMH…
Titans
The next update will feature Jason Peters offering his services as a pass rusher and Mannish Mehta claiming the Jets are interested.
On point.
Sad but time to retire.
As an Eagles fan I have seen a lot of Peters. As of last year he could still play. There were some moments where he started showing some cracks. I forget who it was but some DE got him off his feet at one point and almost launched back into the pocket. A team could probably get another year out of him but they need to have a good back up plan.
Need a very good back-up plan as he has proven very unreliable and will seemingly pull up with one injury after the next.
