The Cowboys opted not to pick up Cameron Fleming‘s option earlier this week, and the Giants are making a move to add him. Big Blue and the free agent tackle agreed to terms on a one-year deal Wednesday night, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com tweets.
The longtime Patriot uniquely has a history with both Joe Judge and Jason Garrett, spending four seasons in New England and two in Dallas. The former Cowboys and Pats backup will be first in line to be the Giants’ right tackle starter, Ralph Vacchiano of SNY adds (via Twitter).
Fleming has played between 230-400 snaps in each of the past four seasons, working as a part-time starter throughout this stretch. The Giants are in the market for a new right tackle; they let 2019 starter Mike Remmers hit the market. With Pat Shurmur and Mike Shula out of the mix, it is expected Remmers will be elsewhere in 2020.
The former Patriots fourth-round pick will be entering his age-28 season. He has started 26 games in his career but never more than seven in a season. This could be a major opportunity for the veteran, though the Giants figure to be in the market for tackles in the draft as well.
Not a starting tackle …
Don’t love GMen offseason so far, soso pieces
Same here. Go into free agency with more money to spend then most teams and sign mediocre players
I understand that the G-Men didn’t want to go the route they did with Vernon, Jenkins and Harrison a few years back with a few high priced FA’s, but I’m very underwhelmed by some of the people and positions they have filled so far. To many players that are redundant and not enough on the positions of need. We need OL help, edge rusher, big receiver and pass coverage LB’s. Instead all our defense FA’s are for run stopping, something we did fairly well last year so not a need. I guess we’re going OL heavy in the draft
They are going shorter contracts with less guaranteed. Smart move for a first year head coach. They also never have depth so maybe this helps. The team also isn’t good enough to compete yet so I’m ok with these moves. Build through the draft. They are trying to keep themselves out of cap trouble.
Giants….
Trade:
The #4 pick in the draft, Nate Solder, Evan Engram and a first round pick in 2021 for..
The #2 pick in the draft, Trent Williams and a sixth round pick in 2021
Giants fix LT with Williams which protects Danny Dimes and makes his job easier and makes Barkley’s job easier. You get the second overall pick and choose Chase Young who is a beast and will give you consist pressure and sacks every year. Plus you clear Nate Solders ugly contract. Then with your second and third round picks grab another WR.
Skins trade down 2 spots and will still get a solid defender, tackle or QB whatever they want. They also get rid of Trent Williams who has consistently caused distractions and doesn’t want to be there. In return they replace him with Solder who is a down grade but he fills a gap at O line. They pick up a nice young TE in Engram and they also pick up a solid pick for next year.
Hell no. No chance. This is one of the worst trade offers I’ve ever seen floated.
I’m not giving up Engram and a first-rounder next year to move up 2 spots. That is crazy talk. If they move at all, the Giants will be moving down. What would you pick at 2? I would trade down and build some depth.
Young is worth trading up for. Just not that trade offer. It’s terrible.
Chase Young is precisely why the Redskins won’t be trading the #2 pick. That makes this trade idea even more ridiculous
Chase Young will be worth it. He’s going to be the next Von Miller. The Giants already have a alright young group of defensive linemen in Williams, Tomlinson and Lawrence. They just got Martinez who is a nice MLB, Peppers is a nice young safety and Bardberry is a great CB. Chase Young would take this defence a step further. Play a nice line up front, pressure the QB, and have people covering the backfield.
Trent Williams would also be a great pick up of you extend him. Him Hernandez and Zeitler would be nice. It would make Daniel Jones work easier getting the ball out and make Barkley play ever better also having a good O line.
Then with a second or third round pick grab a WR because this draft has lots of good WRs then your going to be pretty set.
You have a tidy defence, nice O line, young up and coming QB, top 5 RB, and then a couple targets in the backfield.
The Giants have no one to blame but themselves. They had a chance for Young but beat Miami and Washington at the end of the season.
