The Eagles just traded for a cornerback in Darius Slay, and now they’re looking to ship one out. Philadelphia is shopping Rasul Douglas, sources told Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com.
Philly drafted Douglas in the third-round back in 2017, and he’s played a pretty big role for them the past few years. He’s started at least five games in each of his three pro seasons. Last year he appeared in all 16 games with six starts, racking up 35 tackles and ten passes defended while playing about 57 percent of the defensive snaps.
He’s been one of the few guys who have managed to stay healthy in the Eagles’ secondary recently, but the acquisition of Slay made him expendable. The West Virginia product is only 25 and won’t make a huge salary in the final year of his rookie deal, but it’s unclear how much trade value he’ll have.
Douglas received poor marks from Pro Football Focus last year and was benched after Week 7, with his defensive playing time being limited after that point. Philly’s secondary has been one of the most injured units in the league in recent years, and they made upgrading it a priority this offseason. They likely won’t be able to get anything more than a late-round pick for Douglas.
Yea he is more of a Safety than a corner, and Philly has been forcing a square peg into a round hole.
more sense to keep him then trade/release him for just a late Rd pick
They ought package him with a high level pick in 2021 to Jacksonville for Yannick Ngakoue.
Douglas, 2020 second round and 2021 fourth round for Yannick.
Eagles would be much improved on D with Yannick and Slay
I agree he should be packaged but not for just him and a 2nd and 4th as mentioned below. The jags deserve more than that. Douglas has potential but yannick is proven!
Yannick has only made 1 pro bowl and was drafted in 2016 so he is proven but not solidified himself as right at the very top.
He’s also someone who has been tagged for a 1 year deal and has said he wants out of the Jags so those things make him slightly more cheaper.
A nice starter with potential plus a second plus a fourth is a decent haul
I disagree. Everyone here keeps saying because he wants out and a large contract that that diminishes his value. It does not. See jalen ramsey, DeAndre hopkins, etc…
The jags are notorious for undervaluing their players in trades so this is a trade that could happen, although it isn’t fair value. If you look at the stats, yannick is top 10 in nearly every category since 2016 for his position, if not top 5 in a majority. I can post the stats if you’d like.
If you want to epitomize Douglas’s career.. watch Amari Cooper’s touchdown against him from 2018.
“Philly drafted Douglas in the third-round back in 2017, and he’s played a pretty big role for them the past few years. He’s started at least five games in each of his three pro seasons”.
Is this sarcasm? Five games. Just how many games are in a season? Well the Eagles have been known for their vaunted secondary …
Take the sixth round pick and be happy.
Upgrading and Depth in the Seconday is a priority so what does that say about Douglas if they are willing to deal him? lol is it more than they just don’t want to give him the pay bump beyond this season and get something versus a comp pick or nothing?
Silly to trade him with so little depth already. Lots of corners look bad playing cover 3. He’s the only decent size corner on the team for matching up.
