The Colts have resided as a Philip Rivers suitor for weeks, and in the first three hours of the tampering period, the sides are communicating.
Rivers and the Colts have begun discussions about a deal, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. While Rapoport cautions no deal is done, he adds that the 38-year-old quarterback is a “clear target” for the Colts.
Rivers has remained close to Colts HC Frank Reich and OC Nick Sirianni — both ex-Chargers assistants — and a report surfaced earlier this offseason about the quarterback and the team possessing mutual interest. Rivers has also been linked to the Buccaneers and Redskins.
Jim Irsay indicated in February that all quarterback options were in play for the Colts, who are in the market for a veteran starter for the first time since the mid-1990s. Rivers is interested in a two-year setup with a contending team, and with the Colts having voyaged to the 2018 divisional round with Andrew Luck, they qualify as a team he could assist.
as a colts fan I don’t think this is the right move. will cost a LOT for a guy who looks washed up
A washed up guy who can throw to a second read is better than Brissett. Rivers has fire, competitiveness and still managed to put up numbers [including insane numbers against Indy] behind a league worst line last year.
Sign him, have fun w it and draft his replacement to carry a clipboard for two years.
And who cares about cost? It’s not your money. Keep reading about the colts cap space … what good is it if they don’t use it? Bringing rivers in shows the team wants to win now and can help convince other FAs, especially WRs who wouldn’t want to have Brissett throwing it over their heads into the sideline.
yes he is better than brissett. still think they can do a lot better. Brady or Bridgewater. you have the cap space, dont waste it on a washed up bum who has never had playoff success
Yep
Maybe for the Bears but Brissett is a better option for Indy. They should spend the money else where
Great pick up if the window for the Colts is about 2yrs
Not a Colts fan, but wouldn’t Teddy Bridgewater have been a better fit? I’m not sure what anyone sees in Rivers at this point.
my thoughts exactly. I’d rather bet on upside
Both are backups
The “tell” on where Rivers will end up
is the city/state to which the Rivers’ family
OBSTETRICIAN has relocated.
This is the dumbest thing the Colts could do. Rivers is washed up. He’s been in the league 15 plus years and haven’t done sh*t but thrown a lot of interception. He’s slow, can’t escape a rush. His arm strength is boo-boo.Even with a good offensive line he will be in the top 5 QBs with the most INTs next year.
Damn what did he do to you?
You weren’t watching in 2018 obviously.
Hopefully the Colts get Ole “wounded duck arm”. Guy can’t throw 15 yards. Personally had to feel sorry for him last year watching him throw. Now add his arrogance and boom it will be a BUST signing
