The Browns are about to get more of Andrew Billings in their lives. The former Bengals defensive tackle has agreed to sign with Cincy, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter).
Billings will ink a one-year deal worth $3.5MM fully guaranteed. The structure could be indicative of the current climate and reflective of player concerns during this period of uncertainty. Either way, it’s a solid deal for both sides. The Browns get a former starter on the cheap who can push opposing lineman thanks to his 328-pound frame. Billings, meanwhile, has security and a chance to cash in if he performs.
Billings, 25, has appeared in 47 games with 37 starts for the Bengals over the last three years. He came into the league as a fourth-round pick in 2016, but saw his entire season wiped out by a knee injury.
“The former Bengals defensive tackle has agreed to sign with Cincy, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter).” Aren’t the Bengals IN Cincy?
It says agreed to join cincy in the first paragraph yet he signed with the browns in Cleveland unless they switch cities?
Another necessity signed. Berry has been wise in his dealings, so far.
I agree. They had big holes at strong safety, inside linebacker, and on the interior of the defensive line. Joseph, Goodson, and Billings aren’t studs, but they’re sturdy options that can be capable starters at the very least, but they’re also young enough to possibly have some upside left.
Right tackle, backup QB, and tight end have all been helped too. There are obviously still needs left, but he’s done a great job checking off boxes so far.
I also think that the only ones he overpaid for were Hooper and Keenum, but Hooper was naturally going to become the highest paid tight end since he hit the open market (I was actually worried he’d get more than $11 million a year), and someone pointed out the other day that Keenum really isn’t getting much more than Stanton has been anyway.
