Another Jason Garrett role with the Cowboys does not look to be the plan. While the Cowboys have still not fired their head coach, that is expected to commence soon, Ed Werder of ESPN.com reports (on Twitter).
Earlier Thursday, Werder reported some in the organization wondered if this lengthy delay stemmed from Garrett being set to take another role with the franchise. But coaching interviews are expected soon, which should (in theory) come after the Cowboys announce they’ve fired the incumbent.
Garrett was slated to meet with Jerry and Stephen Jones on Thursday, but Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News adds that did not happen (Twitter link). Final clarity remains elusive, and the Cowboys remain days behind the other coach-needy teams. Some with the Cowboys have not seen a defined process or timeline take shape on this front, per Yahoo.com’s Charles Robinson.
The team has interest in outside candidates, including Ravens OC Greg Roman. But the Cowboys have not moved on this, with Garrett still employed. While it appears the Cowboys are heading in the direction of firing Garrett, after weeks of rumors, this process is dragging due to the “abundance of care and respect” team brass has for its 10-year head coach, Werder adds.
Hell I coulda told you that
amx19,
Ya didn’t so shut up!
Because he didn’t need to, nerd.
sippycups,
Get your head outta your beard you goof!
This could have been dated four weeks, months or years ago.
Don’t you mean “should have”?
Either works…..
Typical Jerra “ Media Horror” Jones. The playoffs are on but “ Jerra” has to still have the attention. Just once give it up like your team does every year and go away
Still can’t believe the Cowboys couldn’t get their act together and make the playoffs. It’s pathetic.
Don’t believe the mainstream media nonsense that the team is super talented. It’s not. Talented teams win. Period. They don’t. They aren’t that talented.
Highest DVOA for an under .500 team in DVOA’s history. Indicates regression back to the norm next season – provided they keep the core together.
Maybe they are thinking of hiring from within like Kellen Moore or Kris Richard and aren’t worry about the coaching carousel.
The “grassy knoll theory?”
Everyone hating this why? I’m an eagles fan it’s hard to say this but I understand. Jerry knee his father and Jason has been there for a long time. Jerry may be a terrible owner but he has a long relationship with Jason and his family. His contract is going to expire so why “fire” him? Obviously they have their candidates already planned out and they aren’t any of the ones already being interviewed or they would be moving faster.
What bothers me is care and respect but axed Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson who won 5 Super Bowl (switzer gets no credit ) and was classless about it
Jerra didn’t know Tom and Jimmy’s father…..
I agree with you I’m not sure if there’s any better candidate out there but then again Jerry Jones may be keeping it under his sleeve I just hope it’s a coach with some authority and Jerry Jones lets him coach
Espn front page says it’s official he has been fired
I honestly can’t tell which is worse rn the browns or the cowboys both have delusional owners who suck at running a franchise.
They learned it from Henry Ford’s grandson who bought the Detroit Lions to
be his “toy” and broke it.
Many times…..
Are you high? The Dallas Cowboys have under Jerry Jones is ownership three Super Bowl championships and you are comparing it to the Browns? No more drugs for this man!
Sources say he’ll remain within the organization as one of Jerry Jones’s sons.
Lol
DOUBLE LOL!!!!!
I just hope they get a real coach and not another puppet Jason Garrett had his moments but just couldn’t do it in the playoffs I’m not so sure there’s another candidate out there now that’s better but I could be wrong but I also think Jason Garrett will get another job soon
A technicality, but isn’t the proper phrase that his contract will not be renewed; whereas, firing would indicate he had years left on his deal?
I dont get why they are calling it fired when his contract is up anyways. Basically he is just not getting re-upped.
Care and respect? Come on we are talking about Jerry Jones here. He doesn’t want him interviewing for other spots so he’s delaying the inevitable
This will be the most attractive job out there. All of this shows any prospective coach as long as you can win over Jerry he is very hesitant to pull the trigger on a firing which means huge job security.
Jason Garrett is truly pathetic. Bad enough that he allowed Jerry to humiliate him by tagging him as a lame duck but now he tolerates these fake job dangles. Any other coach with some self respect would have resigned hours after the season ended instead of permitting himself to be made a fool of in this continuing charade.
