Will all the posturing between the Cowboys and Dak Prescott result in a long-term deal before the start of free agency? Dallas’ star quarterback seems to think so.

“I’ve got confidence something will get done,” Prescott told NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. “We’ll just leave it there. Obviously being the Cowboys quarterback is second to none. There are very few positions in all of sports that are comparable to it. So when you put that in perspective, my mindset is to be in Dallas. And I’ve got the confidence in my team to get something done and the confidence in the Cowboys that we’ll be able to.”
The Cowboys are equally eager to iron out a deal. Publicly, Stephen Jones has acknowledged that a new deal for Prescott is his top priority this season, followed closely by hashing out a new deal with Amari Cooper.
The Cowboys have the franchise tag as a failsafe, so it’s hard to see Prescott reaching the open market this year under any circumstance. If, somehow, he does get to test the open waters, he could be joined by QBs Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Ryan Tannehill, and Jameis Winston.
Prescott went on to say that he’s “excited” to play under new head coach Mike McCarthy and made note of his Super Bowl pedigree. In four years as the Cowboys QB, Prescott has made just two playoff appearances and has only one postseason W.
As a Chiefs fan im a tad biased but even if Dak had a better season than Mahomes ( per Skip Bayless) ,id still rather play in playoffs than have a better “ season.
Anyone who thinks Dak had a better season than Mahomes needs to be checked into an institution.
Badda Bing!
Mahomes season comes to end Sunday losing the super bowl .
I am confident Jerra “ let me pick my nose on National TV” won’t win another Super Bowl , but will still be the only owner to “ pick a winner”.
Prescott is very keen on Dallas, as it’s probably Dallas who has the biggest offer for him. The offer already on the table since training camp is higher than what anyone else would pay for his services.
Just another mercenary. Such is pro sports. Nice of him to make nice for the fans though.
With all the money he could make off the field as a Cowboy icon he would be a fool to try and squeeze every last dollar out of Jerra. The Jones’ constant refrain is “we need extra dollars to surround you with good players.” It’s a reasonable and logical outlook. I hope Dak doesn’t ruin everything…..
Shannon Sharpe is doing his level best to poison these negotiations on Undisputed. Sharpe hates the Cowboys and wants to gut the Cowboys by driving Prescott out of town or making him expensive enough to doom the Cowboys next five seasons.
Most commenters on this board would discredit, and downplay Dak’s stats no matter what they were, simply because he has a star on his helmet. Aside from the Pats, if he was on any of the other 30 teams, most of those same commenters would be saying “(enter team name) would be stupid not to pay the man his money”.
Im a Bills fan … zero xhance2 id pay Dak over keeling2 Josh Allen … none
You can’t be serious?
Not a cowboys fan but at this point I wouldn’t pay Dak 30 mil and I kinda like him.
If I’m the Cowboys I’d throw out two offers, Dak 27mil and Winston 20mil.
I’d be happy with either at those prices.
I know Winston get loads of intercepts but I think under McCarthy with that O Line and with those weapons he would be a hell of a lot better.
Rivers can have the Buccs job, Winston the Cowboys job and Dak out.
Dak would be great for the Panthers
Prescott is an above average to excellent QB. As such, he’ll get paid $30MM plus as that’s the market. He’ll sign a contract for one of the highest AAV deals this year. In a few years, many QBs will have passed him in AAV. It’s the nature of these things.
I wouldn’t rate him that highly.
He’s above average but that’s it.
Out of 30 teams he’s not a top 10 QB.
Mahomes Jimmy G Lamar Brady Big Ben Russell Rodgers Watson Wentz an Brees make 10. Id have Dak just outside these guys.
Jimmy G
Cmon now
Good teams don’t mean good qb it means good team
I would take Dak over Jimmy G all day and everyday.
I’d definitely take Jimmy G over Dak.
Stats even say Jimmy has a better completion percentage and passer rating.
He’s also had more big play passes.
Taz, that’s a reasonable list but I’d take Dak over JG and Wentz. And Prescott and Wentz are both more valuable than Brady and Brees going forward. This is salary for future years not a bonus for past performances.
That said, I cannot remember a time ever when there were so many quality quarterbacks in the league at one time.
Valid point about up and coming. However this offseason Brady and Brees will still get paid top dollar if they wanted it because of how talented they are. I do understand your point tho cause you sign him now for 4 years and in 4 years time Dak will obviously improve from where he is now.
Wentz is by far a better QB than Dak imho but injuries… I think Dak is worth just below 30 mil and with this offseason possessing so much QB talent available i wouldn’t be surprised if Dak doesn’t return
Sounds familiar…
If the Cowboys could play as well as they posture they would be on the field this Sunday. There is zero chance of Jones and Prescott not striking a deal so spare us the contrived drama.
Dum da dum dum dummm
All season to close the gap and get it done and it didn’t happen. Not saying it won’t happen but nobodies blinked so far
Brady to the Cowboys.
