Shortly after his run as Redskins interim head coach ended, Bill Callahan will land on his feet in a familiar role. The Browns are expected to hire Callahan as their next offensive line coach, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com tweets.
They will be the fifth team to bring Callahan in as O-line coach, following the Eagles, Jets, Cowboys and Redskins. While Callahan has held higher-profile titles, most notably Raiders head coach, his primary NFL role has been as an O-line instructor.
Callahan will work with new Browns HC Kevin Stefanski for the first time. This takes the 63-year-old assistant out of the running for a Giants job. He was in play for Big Blue’s offensive line coach position, per Mike Garafolo of NFL.com (Twitter link). Former Cowboys boss Jason Garrett was named OC recently. Callahan worked under Garrett as Dallas’ OC from 2012-14 but accepted a job with the Redskins in 2015. He remained with Washington through the end of the 2010s.
Callahan will replace James Campen, who spent one season working as Browns O-line coach. While the Browns’ offensive line struggled in pass protection — namely at tackle — it ranked 11th in adjusted line yards, helping Nick Chubb to a second-place rushing finish.
Going from one dumpster fire to another.
Don’t you ever get tired of posting repetitive crap?
Do you ever get tired of making a fool out of yourself
Have anything original to say?
I think you meant to write Bengals.
Like the browns coaching moves so far especially retaining Stump as RB coach and ST Preifer 2 aspects of the team that worked this year running game and special teams, Think Callahan will be good OL coach and excited to see what Woods can do with Defense
Even when Callaghan has had an OL of first and 2nd round picks his achievements have been rather mediocre. I don’t see a good fit between Stefanski and this old dinosaur.
Good thing they didn’t hire this Callaghan fellow, then, and hired Bill Callahan, instead.
Was it maybe the culligan man?
The guy has been a terrible HC every place he’s been. As a assistant he’s been average at best maybe a C- at best. He’s a buddy of Gruden and thats how he survives in the league. Terrible hiring by a young HC
And you’re an expert at evaluating offensive line coaches? You have prior experience in this field? First-hand knowledge, maybe? Work experience in an NFL front office?
I’m betting none of the above. All you have is an uneducated opinion.
Hey genius look at his record as a HC all the way back to HS in Illinois. Then look at his record as a line coach in the NFL never once a top 12 OL in run game or Pass protection. As for me directly having a NFL job NO I haven’t. However nephew / God Child is a NFL assistant coach so I do have inside knowledge. So what now makes you such a expert????
Did I claim to be an expert?
Nope.
Well now we know obviously your not and your lacking first hand knowledge of the topic. As I stated man isn’t a top OL coach or for that matter a above average coach.
He was hired for the purpose of teaching the zone-blocking scheme, which is what Stefanski uses.
And please, learn proper grammar.
When people need the best Neuro Surgeon in the Midwest to save there life they don’t worry about grammar.
