The Seahawks were dealt a bad blow this week when Josh Gordon was banned indefinitely by the NFL. Down a major deep threat, could they consider signing Antonio Brown, the game’s most talented and controversial free agent?
Mike Florio of PFT touched on the possibility today, while noting the obvious barriers: Brown is still waiting to find out whether he’ll be hit with a suspension of his own and the PR backlash would be enormous.
The Seahawks did their “due diligence” on Brown before claiming Gordon this year, but it’s not clear what they uncovered in their own investigation. Meanwhile, teams interested in Brown have been in a holding pattern as they await word on the wide receiver’s status from the NFL.
The belief is that if Brown is signed, the league will instantly place him on paid leave. But, if the Seahawks were to sign Brown after Week 17, there would be no real financial risk, since his compensation would be limited to just his playoff share.
With all of that said, the potential upside is enormous. Brown has caught 841 passes for 11,253 yards over the course of his ten-year career, which includes seven Pro Bowl appearances. And, in his last playoff game (January 14, 2018), reeled in seven catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns. That’s the kind of weapon Russell Wilson could use as the Seahawks gear up for their 2019/2020 push.

Again he cannot play a single game this season. Why is this a subject??
Plus- I wouldn’t put WR at the top of the wishlist for Seattle anyway. They should look for more pass rush, a TE, a Center, a backup RB/FB or secondary help before they look to replace a dysfunctional WR who was utilized once or twice a game. At Carolina their D started the game without Clowney, Ansah, their #1CB and Kendricks then lost Bobby Wagner, Q Diggs and his replacement DeLano Hill. Their best TE Will Dissly, RB Rashaad Penny and C Justin Britt are all on IR. The Hawks would be nuts to get AB. Lockett is finally injury free and DK Metcalf is excelling- no need
After week 17 I’d take a flyer.
NFL will not allow him to play this season just give it up already geesh
if he’s not getting suspended then why not. but really though, can this guy just go away already?
Can this idiot just go away already
Oakland and New England say Seattle should give AB a chance. What’s the worst that could happen a lawsuit.
Hilarious. It’s as if Seattle is desperately going to try and replace the incredible contributions of Josh Gordon. 7 catches in 5 games.
I’m not so sure he would clear the concussion protocol. He clearly is a poster boy for the long term effects of CTE.
Look up his past. He has acted this way since he was leaving high school and causing trouble just trying to start his college career. Not the CTE issue that many think.
My personal opinion is that cusfanbudman was joking.
Nah he don’t like white girls no more
From the moment that I saw that tweet from Mr. Big Chest, all I could think of was the Scene in Blazing Saddles when Sheriff Bart (Clevon Little) and Jim, The Waco Kid (Gene WIlder) get the attention of a couple of KKK guys at Hedy (that’s Hedley) Lemarr:
Jim : Oh, boys! Lookee what I got heyuh.
Bart : Hey, where are the white women at?
NFL better not allow any team to sign this jackass to be a playoff assassin.
Clickbait nonsense. He’s not coming back, Gordon did nothing to even need to be replaced (7 catches?), the Seahawks wouldn’t want his toxic idiocy in their locker room, and the NFL wouldn’t let him play, anyway.
Agreed. Toxic players are what set us back in the first place.
Not worth sacrificing the locker room. Pass.
He’s been on my Steelers and now hopefully not the Seahawks. I like both teams cause of the defence they play. The guy is a human cancer to his teammate and his actions have been worse since his dancing with the stars. He needs to grow up and stop being such a goof off!
Why is this even a topic? Brown WOULD be placed on the exempt list as soon as he signs with any team (this season at least), so wouldn’t be seeing a snap til the 2020 season.
Signing AB who be an awesome idea if the Seahawks
(a) needed someone to make coffee runs to Starbucks or
(b) wanted to prove they can make worse decisions than attempting a 1 yard pass in a SB.
Ok well it did say in the poll should they CONSIDER signing him. To that yes they should consider it because of the effects he can have on the field. But should they sign him is another matter. To that I’d say no.
