Dak Prescott hasn’t had a great second half to the season, but Cowboys VP Stephen Jones says he’s as confident as ever in the quarterback. In an interview on 105.3 The Fan, Jones stood behind the Cowboys signal caller.
“We’ve never blinked on (paying Dak Prescott). We’ve had a very aggressive offer out there every step of the way…I think Dak has given us every opportunity to have success this year. I’m as bullish about Dak as I’ve ever been,” Jones said.
Prescott, 26, has completed 64.8% of his passes this year with 26 touchdowns against eleven interceptions. Those numbers are weighed down by a flat second half. Through the first seven games of the year, Prescott completed more than 70% of his passes with 12 TDs and seven INTs.
In the offseason, you can expect the Cowboys to aggressively pursue a long-term deal with Prescott, though they’ll have to leave enough breathing room for the rest of the gang. That includes wide receiver Amari Cooper, who is hoping to stay in Dallas with a top-of-the-market deal.
In the near term, the Cowboys are hoping that Prescott’s ailing shoulder will be good to go for their regular season finale against the Redskins. Prescott was not on the field for the team’s Christmas Day practice, but he managed to play on Sunday against the Eagles despite being limited throughout the week.
Pay him please…
you must be an eagles fan.
I agree…both Prescott and Cooper. Max out that salary cap.
at the start of the season, i figured they shouldve prioritozed their other players over Dak, but he seems to work for the team. all they need to succeed now is a better kicker and a real coach.
Goff, Wentz and soon to be Dak. All overpaid and none will ever win a SB.
Because you said so it must be set in stone
It’s my opinion. You’re a troll. Go back in the basement.
Wentz already wins sb. Man you must feel dumb
He got them into position, but nobody in their right mind thinks that he won that Super Bowl.
I believe that was Foles who played out of his mind and not Wentz in that SB
Wentz participated in the Super Bowl as much as I did.
The guy who who thinks Wentz won the SB instead of Foles is calling others dumb? The hypocrisy meter is on full tilt.
Wentz hasn’t won anything!! Foles is the one that won that super bowl!! Who feels dumb again!? Lol
It’s a shame that there will be a disconnect here. Realistically Dak is a very good QB in the system with Zeke. He’s not a 35 mill Russel Wilson but an upper middle tier QB. On the open market he’s not getting what he can from Dallas IMO. I don’t think Miami is signing him. TB? Is his ceiling higher than Shame-us? Nope. Jax? Nope. Not gonna pay him and foles. Chargers? Can’t afford him. Chicago? Same thing. Maybe Carolina?
Realistically I’d put him above Derek Carr, Jimmy G and Goff but slightly below Wentz. Not in the same class as Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Wilson, Mahomes, Watson, Jackson.
32 mill is more than fair
This is a good analysis, although Miami could be a potential spot depending on what they do draft-wise. If Tua did not get hurt, then Miami may have drafted him early. But now, Cincinnati will go Burrows and Miami may draft a non-qb. Redskins, Giants, and Lions won’t draft one, either.
Miami should package their draft picks to Cincy and get Burrows 4 first Round picks would change both teams.
I couldn’t agree more. Dak only gets $35M from one team…Dallas. Cincinnati wouldn’t even pay him that if they decided to go DE (Chase) with the #1 pick. He should be happy to sign with Dallas for $25M – $28M and leave room for them to complete their roster. That’s how NE won all those years. Brady, Edelman & others taking below market deals so the team could sign the ancillary players who put them over the top. Having an all-time great coach didn’t hurt either…
$32MM is only fair if it’s for two seasons. Dak ain’t worth near that compared to the actual elite QB’s…you know, that have actually done something.
Hate the cowboys, so yes….please overpay him Dallas! (Anything over 20mm a year is overpaid)
Colts and all that cap space could take a look at him. Add a 1st round WR and some more defensive pieces in the draft too
Romo is coming out of retirement
Bullish? I’m surprised nobody’s suggested taking the last three letters, rearranging them, then adding a “t”.
How’s that franchise savior from Oklahoma working out for your Browns?
How’s that franchise savior from North Carolina working out for your Bears?
Don’t play your hand going into the draft. Tua all the way.
Draft Herbert
Duk 15TD 3INT in 5 games this season vs. Mia, Det, Wash and NYG (twice), check the stats in the games vs the big boys. Dude is fools gold. I’m hopeful the “bullish on Dak” rhetoric is BS. Cooper can hit the road too, Gallop will be better than him in the long run, he disappears about as much as Duk when is time to put on his big boy pants.
Prescott is 29-2 in games where he had a QB rating of 100 or more. Wentz is 16-5. Pretty easy to see who should be getting the paid more.
Agreed…. But I think Wentz was way over paid, he shouldn’t have gotten anymore than $25-$28M!! And $28M is being generous!! And I think Dak should’ve took the $30M he was offered and ran with it!! I like Dak, but I don’t think he’s worth much more than that!! But I still agree with you that he deserves more than Wentz!!
Yes, bring everyone back so you can suck again next year.
They only need better coaching!! Even the players are saying that!! This team would be a top team in the NFL if they had a coach that knew how to call plays that helped the offense, instead of calling plays that helped the opponents defenses!! Anybody that knows football can tell you that!! It’s not hard to see either if you pay attention!!
Dak > Carson
