With a 5-9-1 record heading into the season finale, the Cardinals are understandably planning some changes in the offseason. Those plans may include a shakeup of the coaching staff, as head coach Kliff Kingsbury tells the team website.
Kingsbury will sit down with GM Steve Keim and chairman and owner Michael Bidwill to discuss the futures of his coaches. From the sound of it, those decisions will not be entirely up to the first-year coach.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever worked with a GM on that side of things,” Kingsbury said. “With Michael and Steve, (we’ll) sit down in a room and talk about each position group and be brutally honest with ourselves and each other and come to a good place. That relationship to me has been vital, with Steve, where we are very upfront with each other, with what he sees and what I see. Michael has the final say. I like where the relationship is at, and we’ll find out after the season.”
Kingsbury – an NFL neophyte – leaned heavily on Keim’s suggestions to find assistants with pro experience. After one season in the league, Kingsbury admits that he still doesn’t know a ton of coaches in NFL circles.
As of this writing, the Cardinals are slated to pick No. 9 overall in the draft. They’ll finish up the 2019 season on Sunday when they take on the Rams in Los Angeles.
The shakeup should start with Kingsbury. You are only putting off the inevitable.
Why? They played tough all season. Its obvious the Murray and Kingsbury match works
Agreed
Put down the pipe…KK is a keeper. This season proved that.
I’ve felt he’s done a very good job with that roster. Playing in the NFC West is not easy to debut as a coach.
Agreed. They might’ve been 8-8 if they had played in the NFC East. The staff, as a whole, deserves another year to teach the players, implement their vision, and build the franchise up. Changes for the sake of changes is how a franchise becomes a laughingstock.
Are you dumb?
After knocking of Seattle this conversation should be about keeping the staff and letting young talent developed with consistency
that fact that theyll not reach double digit losses until week 17 is proof enough that this coaching crew should be back.
This season has been a win for the Cardinals. Keim is the one that needs to go. He was successful when he started but that magic has somehow worn off.
Wanna be sean mcvay. Mediocre on field record both in college and in majors. He will be fired come next year
You act as tho there are no weaknesses. You look critically at your weakest performing components and identify potential improvements in the coaching staff if they become available. There will be some guys out there at the end of this season.
Cardinals have been running the ball more and are doing better. 5-9-1. Kingsbury has gotten it faster then a lot of coaches in the league. Even Coaches with Tenure. There are so many pass happy coaches either the Head Coach calling plays, or whoever the play caller may be.
You win in the league with Balance on offense. If you throw more then 60% of the time you will lose even if you happen to make the playoffs. In the SB era 1966 to now like 54 teams threw it 60% of the time all since 1990. 9 made it to the SB. 3 won it. So out of 106 SB teams 8.5% 5,7% chance to win so far. at this point with 1 week to go. Only 2 teams are in the playoffs that throw it that much. Chiefs and Saints. anything can happen in Week 17. The more balanced team on offense or Run Balanced team is 187-49-1 this yr there have been 3 games which featured pushes 49ers/ Ravens, Redskins/ 49ers and believe it or not Pats/ Bengals. Right now the Cards are passing 59.6% of the time. after 3 games they were 0-2-1 73.2% after 4 they dropped it to 70.5 There is no rhyme or reason to a team throwing the ball too much. Sometimes yeah the run is not effective. but other times they run the ball real well and they stop. It also does not matter if it is the 1st quarter or the 4th quarter or any moment in between. in the Cardinals 5 wins. 44.9% pass in the losses and tie 67.5% pass. of the best teams in the league Bills, Ravens, Vikings, 49ers and Seahawks they pass the ball the least. most of the teams at the bottom record wise throw it more then 60% of the time.
Cool
There needs to be another year at least before making any changes to the coaching staff! This team has done more than I expected. The team is totally different from last year and it has showed remarkable improvements. The team needs to have above average draft and bring in some vets to help the rookies and 2nd year players to better understand the pro level. If next season doesn’t excell this years wins “NOTHING UNDER 8 WINS” then it’ll be time for major changes at all levels FRONT OFFICE, COACHING STAFF, AND PLAYERS. The only job’s that should be safe are the team doctors and equipment managers.
Of all the aspects, the defense disappointed. I did not see the defense progress throughout the year. Yes they had a good game against Seattle, but if you review the year, the defense was the Achilles heal of the team. I would like to see a real defensive coordinator. Vance Joseph, if you review his background was a d coordinator for a short period before coaching Denver. I’m not sold on him and his planning.
