The Jets and Kelechi Osemele disagree on the best treatment for his injured shoulder. Osemele plans to have surgery to repair it while Jets team doctors feel that it’s an unnecessary procedure and the franchise has fined the offensive lineman for conduct detrimental to the team as a result of the disagreement. Now, the NFL Players Association has weighed in (via Twitter).
“Our union supports every player’s right to a second medical opinion, workers’ compensation and the best medical care,” the statement reads. “It is not appropriate or ethical for employers in any line of work to dictate the medical care and treatment of any employee. We are considering all options to protect Kelechi Osemele, as we would for any of our members.”
Jets coach Adam Gates has refused to comment on the situation. “I haven’t been involved in this. My job is coaching the team,” Gase said (via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com). Per Cimini, Osemele hasn’t spoken to Gase in “weeks” but the guard has no beef with the coach.
Jets are a mess and they are gonna ruin sam darnold.
He’s already seeing ghosts
Player’s are using ‘player safety’ to their advantage. “My back is sore!’ JR & is traded. This guy “My doc says I need surgery.” And he’ll be paid as well. They flipped the script and good for them. Why waste your years on miserable franchises?
Then, of course, NE re-flips the script. Places Gordon on the IR while getting a comp pick. I’m not a Pats fan, but I do love watching Bill work his voodoo.
Why would anyone insist on getting surgery if it’s unnecessary? Saying he wants to have the surgery just to avoid playing for them is ridiculous. Just like any business or job, their doctors are looking out for the organization’s best interest, not his/the employee’s. His doctors clearly disagree with there’s.
I’m a Jets fan and even I can admit this is a clown move their pulling.
Maybe JUST MAYBE he is actually injured. They should get a third party doctor to see how bad it is.
terrible take
Injury gate?
Even the Jets Dr says he needs surgery. They just want to shoot him up with pain killers and told him to play through it and have the surgery at the end of the season. He has 3 doctors, including the Jets team dr saying he needs the surgery, so he is clearly injured.
If he needs the surgery he needs it, but Jets are being reckless with someone else’s body. As it always is with sports, once they are done with you they are done and could care less about your quality of life after you play for them.
joke franchise
Yeah finding a guy for deciding what’s best for his body is insane. As if free agents needed another reason to make the Jets overpay…
