Jaguars star Jalen Ramsey will not practice on Wednesday, per the club’s daily blast. Ramsey is listed as unable to participate with a back injury, though many have been suspicious about his continued absence.
Ramsey wants out of Jacksonville, and the Jaguars seem poised to trade him, but the club’s asking price seems to be a barrier to a deal. At the outset, they started the bidding at two first-round picks. Recently, a contending team offered two first-round choices, but the Jaguars turned down the deal with the belief that those picks would likely fall at the end of the draft.
Nearly every team in the league seems to be interested in Ramsey, but Peter King of NBC Sports recently speculated that the Chiefs and Ravens rank high on that list. He also believes the Chargers could join the fray.
For any club, Ramsey would mark a massive upgrade for today and become a huge cornerstone for seasons to come. The appeal is obvious – he’s one of the very best corners in the game and won’t turn 25 until later this month. On the flipside, acquiring Ramsey would mean giving the young star a top-of-the-market deal that is commensurate with his ability, so the notion of sacrificing two first-round picks for him is unpalatable to most franchises.
In related news, quarterback Gardner Minshew was added to the injury report with a knee ailment, but that issue is believed to be minor. Right now, it sounds like he’ll be available to face the Panthers this weekend.
Jags finally get a buzz from winning & yet management wants to screw it up. Thanks Tom C. Either trade JR or sign him, but stop the non-sense.
Two first round picks, whatever spots they are in, are certainly a worthy trade. Ramsey’s next contract is going to kneecap whatever team signs him. Two rookie contracts on first round talent more than make up for a troublemaker. A contender in a tight window to win with some salary cap space on the other hand could benefit from Ramsey’s talent this season, here and now.
Sounds like a fair exchange to me.
My hometown team the Ravens apparently kicked the tired on a trade. The rumor is they were offering TE Hayden Hurst who is a first round pick. He’s behind the depth chart here with Mark Andrews emerging as a big talent and Nick Boyle who is a serious blocker with soft hands. Hurst was slowed by a foot injury in his rookie season but has great hands.
Included with Hurst was our 2020 1st round pick and also a lower round pick, I think a third.
The Ravens have a need at CB with Jimmy Smith always getting hurt every year (and is currently hurt) and Tavon Young’s career might be in jeopardy with a neck injury. After that we have Marlon Humprhey who is pretty darn good and then the ageless wonder Brandon Carr. We don’t have much depth behind them with Maurice Canaday who started the year on the practice squad and Anthony Averett.
To me this trade doesn’t make sense. The Ravens have no real pass rush and despite the Earl Thomas hype our safety tandem is horrible. Ramsey alone doesn’t fix this.
Ramsey gives the Ravens two shut down corners. Remember Jimmy Smith is in the last year of his deal, and they’re likely to spend a 1st round pick on a corner anyway. It’s not a pass rusher, but the Ravens haven’t had a real pass rush in a longtime.. We’ll make do. I make the trade for Ramsey. Two shut down corners can mask a lot of Baltimore’s defensive issues, and makes the team good enough to get to the playoffs…
I agree Ramsey is a great talent, but the Ravens already dished out a lot of money to Tavon Young (who may never play again) and have two of the highest paid safeties in the NFL in Thomas and Jefferson. Those two are huge problems as Thomas doesn’t fit our scheme and Tony can’t cover anyone and is always looking to blow up people on tackles and usually misses.
Ramsey will have to be renewed soon, so it is a huge trade for a rental. If the Ravens were stocked for a run this year then maybe, but this team has some huge holes that Ramsey alone can’t fix. No pass rush, our middle backers are horrible, and the back end safeties blow coverage all the time.
If Gardner Minshew keeps playing so well why not look into trading Nick Foles.
The Redskins are unsure on Haskins why not swap Foles for Keenum and Trent Williams.
Redskins get a better QB, the Jags get a back up for Minshew and improve at tackle. Gets them out of Foles big deal for Keenums expiring deal
Minshew actually has a good run of games to impress. He has the Panthers without Newton, the Saints without Brees then the Bengals and the Jets.
He’s already played the Chiefs in which he had a great game, he almost beat the Texans then has won his past 2 games. If somehow wins the next 3 or 4 that team looks mayne 5-3 or 6-2 and that’s with Ramsey drama in the background
Washington doesn’t want Nick Foles and Nick Foles wouldn’t want to go to the Redskins.
