One week ago, Dolphins coach Brian Flores said Josh Rosen would be his starting quarterback for the rest of the season. On Sunday, he had a change of heart midway through and went with Ryan Fitzpatrick. On Wednesday, Flores announced that Fitzpatrick will lead the charge the rest of the way.
That’s not quite in line with the “rest of the season” vow made to Rosen, but then again, the Dolphins’ season is more or less over here in October. On the plus side – the Dolphins showed serious signs of life on Sunday against the Redskins and nearly came from behind to win with Fitzpatrick under center.
After a few days of evaluating in practice, Flores says Fitz will be his guy. Or, at least, he’ll be Flores’ QB against the Bills on Sunday. What happens after that is TBD.
If it’s any consolation to Rosen – even under the best of circumstances, the Dolphins were, and are, still planning to take a quarterback in the first round of the 2020 draft.
Rosen is so bad he can’t hold a starting job on the worst team in the league. Complete bust.
How is he a complete bust? He’s barely played a season’s worth of games and all of them have been on absolutely atrocious teams with almost no offensive weapons. He’s on a new team with a new system as well. Both teams he’s been on have basically done everything in their power to set him up to fail.
He’s a complete bust because after listing how bad the talent around him has been, you failed to mention that QBs replacing him have done much better with said talent!
Also, have you ever watched him play? He’s bad, borderline not even a backup bad.
Is that so? QB’s replacing him have done “much better”?? Rosen has a rating of 52.0 and Fitz has a rating of 60.2. Not exactly “much better”.
Are you using some type of new math in forming your opinion?
Can’t just look at overall ratings. Both offenses moved the ball much better without Rosen.
Tannehill may not be much better in terms of exact numbers, but he can throw past 5 yards downfield, that opens things up a good bit more.
Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Breese all combined into 1 super QB couldn’t do anything in Miami
Cause we all know the best way to integrate quarterbacks onto your team is to have them alternate between starting and benching every week
Another baffling move by Miami. Fitzpatrick means nothing to the franchise. You just traded for Rosen. Play him the rest of the year and hope he develops a little to at least serve as a backup next year. Now you’ve benched him at his lowest value and won’t be able to do anything with him but release him or keep him as an undeveloped backup.
It’s not that baffling at all really! It’s fairly obvious that Rosen is not going to be the future, and the team will draft that guy next year.
This team is in evaluation mode. Rosen has already been evaluated, and is now greatly hindering the ability to evaluate the entire team. Fitzpatrick is a legitimate NFL QB. That allows them to judge the WRs more fairly. A better passing game makes judging the RBs easier. A more balanced and productive offense makes judging the defensive fairer.
And as for developing Rosen as a backup QB, what’s the point. If they draft a young QB next year, they are going to want a veteran backup(like Fitz). Also, no team goes out of their way to develop a backup QB, that either happens or it doesn’t.
This was clearly the right move!
All your arguments support the arguments made by the guy you disagreed with. You just proved his point to be correct.
As a Bills fan I’d be more worried about Fitz than Rosen lol. Fitz somehow gets hot against Buffalo from time to time. Hell even when he was a Bill he was killing us. Lol!
Not sure why they wouldn’t start Rosen. I thought the point was to lose as many games as possible?
Maybe it’s a showcase situation to see if they can get some interest in Fitz.
Rosen throws the ball very well. Give him a halfway decent O-line and some confidence and I think everyone would form a different opinion. He’s been dealt two really bad situations but has done the best he can with what he’s been given. The Patriots or Packers should pluck him away from the Dolphins.
Rosen’s best passer rating came against the Chargers so it would probably make more sense for them to pluck him away from the Dolphins than for the Pats or Packers to do so. Philip Rivers will have to be replaced at some point.
