The Jaguars have reportedly set the asking price for disgruntled star cornerback Jalen Ramsey at two first-round draft picks (at least), and Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that one team was willing to pony up that kind of draft capital. However, it seems the offer came from a legitimate Super Bowl contender, as JLC says the Jaguars believed those picks would come too close to the bottom of the first round to make the deal worthwhile.
The reported Ramsey suitor is unnamed, but Michael Lombardi of The Athletic says the Eagles, whose lack of secondary depth has been on full display this season, will continue trying to pry Ramsey away from the Jaguars.
We heard yesterday that Ramsey may suit up for Jags again, though he recently reiterated his trade demand and still does not look like he will be in Jacksonville for much longer. Indeed, Ramsey has continued to tell those close to him that he has no desire to sign an extension with the Jags, and many rival GMs believe the situation is beyond salvageable. Both the team and Ramsey have drawn scrutiny for how they have handled the matter, and one high-ranking exec from another team said he expects Ramsey to keep creating drama until he gets his way.
Another league source said Jaguars owner Shad Khan would be loathe to “reward” Ramsey by giving in to his trade demand, but at a certain point, Ramsey will become more trouble than he’s worth (if he hasn’t crossed that line already). Luckily for Khan, numerous teams remain interested in the volatile defender.
Ramsey is officially questionable for Jacksonville’s game against the Broncos today due to a back injury, and ESPN’s Josina Anderson reports that Ramsey is going to “listen to his body” before deciding whether he’s able to play (Twitter link).
it makes sense that the best offer was from a superbowl contender, as much as I’d like my team (jets) to get him I know it doesn’t make sense to give up what is may be a top 5 pick to get a guy that won’t help save their season this year and will get expensive going forward
I’m going out on a whim and saying it was the Eagles. They had playoffs on paper and have a decimated secondary that would be desperate enough to give two first round picks. L
My guess is the chiefs. Looking ahead to the patriots in the afc championship.
I think so as well or maybe it was the pats
2 low firsts is better than him walking for nothing.
You actually think he’ll sit out this and next season? The Jags exercised his 2020 option.
Not to mention they can franchise him twice.
All of these are reasons for him to sit. If he isnt playing the jags will have to make a move eventually
As much as I get wanting earlier picks you aren’t going to have a garbage team mortgaging the future for a win now player. As an Eagles fan I wouldn’t love the idea of giving up two 1s, but if the front office made the move I’d support it
The idea of giving up two 1sts and not getting to pick until around 60 two years in a row is too much. Especially considering the contract he’ll demand and then factor in him playing these childish games and missing actual games.
Howie will make it work
how’d that theory work for the Raiders giving Mack to Chicago instead of GB?? bit them in the ass in the long run
Did it though? Cause they secured a top 5 pick (not the wisest draft choice) and got a featured back and a safety they needed.
Will likely have a top 10 pick and possibly top 20 if the bears offense cant figure things out.
If it was the eagles jaguars should of taken the deal. If wentz gets hurt that could become top 15 picks.
If they were bottom 1st rounders worst case scenario os trade back with teams looking to secure the 5th year option and acquire draft capital in later rounds.
Those picks have to hit though, otherwise the team taking these star defenders wins in a landslide. Not sure any of those selections pan out long-term.
2 first rounders in the high 20s are better than 1 disgruntled employee.
I would trade him to one of the teams likely to have an awful record for the next couple of years, like Arizona, Miami, or Cincinnati.
Yeah but one of those teams has to WANT him first. A rebuilding team like miami isn’t going to trade away their main building block for TWO YEARS for a player who will be long gone by the time they’re competitive
I think it’s the chiefs. They don’t want him in the AFC and they are probably still poking the eagles for more. This 1st. Next 1st. Probably a starter or 3rd-5th rd should get it done. Worth it? Skill wise yes.
Someone needs to be fired for rejecting that.
What about a middle ish placed team wanting to improve and giving up 2 first. Maybe the 49ers or Texans
I highly doubt they trade him inside the AFC South
