To make room for Orlando Scandrick‘s return, the Eagles released L.J. Fort. The former Steelers linebacker signed a three-year deal with the Eagles earlier this offseason.
The Eagles gave Fort a three-year, $5.5MM contract. They will have to eat a low-seven-figure dead-money hit, but a need at cornerback looks to have superseded any financial issues. Philadelphia entered its Week 4 game without Ronald Darby, and Avonte Maddox is out for an undetermined amount of time because of the scary head and neck injuries he suffered in the fourth quarter.
Fort did not play any defensive snaps for the Eagles but did see special teams action in all four games. The former UDFA graded well with the Steelers in 2018, leading to the modest Eagles pact. It’s certainly possible he could return once the Eagles’ cornerback issues are sorted out, but for the time being, the vested veteran will return to free agency.
COMP PICKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They don’t have LB depth either tho. I honestly dont know why this team covets their draft picks. They hit on so few at key positions. WR, LB, Corner, Guard, Center. And until this year RB.
If you’re planning to target any one of those positions in the 1st 3 rounds, as long as you can make the $ work trade for established talent.
Patrick Peterson, Jalen Ramsey. Trade for both. This isnt Madden, but why waste a year of this squad?
Both will require at least 1 1st round pick. They looked like a team about to go All In. And they went I to this offseason with the same mindset as the Phillies and Klentak “Yea Pivetta, Efflin, Velasquez those guys are going to be good this year” Their corners are trash and have been for a decade since Asante. I could beat them on a double move. Darby is cooked you resigned a guy for biggish money who wrecked his ankle and he is a speed reliant player. Jones is a CB3 at best. Douglass is a Safety too slow. Mills has always been avg to slightly above avg if healthy.
No more big FORT in the Eagle Locker room !!
