Melvin Gordon could be on the move and the Eagles, for the right price, would be interested in acquiring him. The Eagles offered up a trade in which they would send Jordan Howard to Los Angeles and swap mid-round picks, Albert Breer of The MMQB tweets. In the proposed swap, the Chargers would also eat a portion of Gordon’s salary. Unsurprisingly, the Chargers declined the offer.
Howard, at one point in time, was a powerful rusher with juke ability for the Bears. However, he eventually lost his footing in Chicago, thanks in part to the emergence of Tarik Cohen. This year, the Bears shipped Howard to the Eagles for a draft choice and went on to add their new starting running back in the first round.
The Chargers are unwilling to extend Gordon this year and are, in theory, willing to trade him. The latest word – with at least one team, they’ve pitched a Gordon trade that would call for a 2020 first-rounder or a 2020 fifth- and 2021 first-rounder in exchange.
Eagles should be giving picks. They don’t need more rookies that eat up cap space when they can be giving someone like Gordon money next year when Peters and Kelce finally (hopefully) leave. Nobody values the RB position and Howie definitely doesn’t so I see this as another trade the eagles pass on. Solid number one RB is something the Eagles don’t care about unfortunately.
Why are you hopeful that the best center in the NFL will leave the Eagles?
He’s been talking about retirement. Kelce is a god and I will never forget him during the parade, but his time is coming. Peters time has been up and the Eagles really need to send him to the retirement home. Gordon is a top ten RB. Everyone should be going after him.
The Cowboys have the best center in football.
Your Cowpies won’t make playoffs
Blalala best in league lol. Maybe last cause Fredrick wasn’t playing
While I agree that in a deal for Gordan, they should’ve offered Howard and a pick, instead of a pick swap, they need draft picks at this point. Now that they’re gonna be paying Wentz,as well as other key players, how they draft going forward will determine how competitive they remain.
Barnett(3rd yr-3.5),Dillard(rookie-2.2),Vaitai(4th yr-2.0),Seumalo(4th-1.7),S.Jones(3rd-1.6),Goeddert(2nd-1.275) are the only players they’ve drafted over the last 4 years that are making over a million, other than Wentz.None of those salaries are a burden on the cap.
And they’re not desperate for Gordon.Howard and Sanders splitting carries, with Clement and Sproles backing them up and handling return duties is a pretty solid setup. At this point it’s arguable that having their cap space rollover to next season might be their best play,so they could use for a corner.
Bears drafted a running back in the 3rd round. They did not have a 1st or 2nd this year due to the Mack trade.
they have Oakland’s 2nd rd pick
in next year’s draft.
JORDAN HOWARD! That’s how valuable teams find you Melvin. Enjoy missing those game checks!
Why would any team give up a 1st for a slightly above average running back. Melvin just Melvin’d himself. $10 mil is a lot of bread. Greed
I still think San Fran is the best fit for him
Provided that Gordon is healthy the Raiders gotta get in on this.
Although I do wonder if the Chargers would do an in the division trade
Raiders just drafted a running back in the first round.. why would they trade, then sign a running back to 13 mill a year?
David Montgomery was not picked in the first round by the bears, might want to correct that
As a good GM you always have to be kicking the tires on every bit of talent available in the league. Eagles do not ‘need’ RB help. Miles Sanders already looks to be most talented running back on the team . Howard is gonna eat in the red zone. Clement has great talents as receiver and pass protector. And you have the “X” Factor of Sproles
The Chargers say Gordon isn’t worth extending but then try to extort a kings ransom for him…lol.
