It’s happening – we think. The Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott are nearing agreement on a deal that would allow the running back to suit up for Week 1, Mike Florio of PFT hears.
Word has it that this would be a six-year, $90MM extension. That deal would tie Elliott to the Cowboys for an unfathomable eight years, since he has two years remaining on his rookie contract.
Of course, as with any NFL deal, it wouldn’t be a true eight-year deal. The guarantees, cash flow, and structure will dictate how long the Cowboys are truly committed to their star running back.
If all goes well, the Cowboys will have Elliott in action against the Giants on Sunday.
smh
Tomorrow’s headline:
“Cowboys and Zeke haven’t had productive talks in weeks. Zeke no where near close to returning, per sources.”
Too funny
Can we please not get any more close to signing articles and get one once he’s signed
I second that emotion!
This article contained pertinent and new information. I appreciate the update. Stop being picky about the sports news you get for free
Only picky when it comes from that tool Florio!
This is the worst contract ever. No running back is worth that type of money in today’s NFL. Zeke is going to break down like a Ford Pinto.
It reminds me of that 7 year 126.7MM contract extension the Bears gave Jay Cutler.
Pay him whatever he wants. My fantasy team would like his production.
8 carries 13 yards
Assuming all this to be true (risky, I know), my first thought is… no matter HOW much you train away from camp, there’s been no game contact, no interaction with your teammates, none of that. I’d guess the already scary injury risk for a running back will go way high for at least a game or two.
I agree normally injury is a risk the only type of injury you really need to worry about in this kind of situation and with a guy the size of Elliot would be hamstring issues but being he’s been training all off-season I don’t think that is a concern. Had he been a running back out smaller frame I would definitely say injuries are almost destined to happen in the first couple weeks but not in the situation
Trade him Jerry
just hearing here in Dallas that the 6 year 90 million deal is done and a press conference is scheduled for tomorrow.
Thank you Jerry Jones. You will have Zeke on board for eight years and three capable running backs behind him. Now if the team can stay away from major injuries.
Zeke is the difference of the Cowboys being legit Super Bowl contenders or a bunch of pretenders. He’s their best player
They aren’t winning with Dak and no Zeke
