The Chiefs have agreed to a brand new deal with star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The deal is worth $54MM over three years, Mike Florio of PFT tweets.
Hill, of course, is a controversial figure. His partner, Crystal Espinal, has accused him of domestic violence, and, recently, there were allegations that Hill broke his three-year-old son’s arm. Hill did not receive league discipline or legal consequences for the claims of child abuse, and the Chiefs have stood by him.
Recently, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt met with Hill in person to discuss the latest controversy.
“So I had a good visit with him,” Hunt said. “I’m not going to get into the details of that conversation, but it was a very frank conversation, talking to him about responsibility as he comes back to be a Kansas City Chief.”
On the field, Hill has been absolute dynamite for the Chiefs. Last year, Hill nearly reached 1,500 yards receiving, averaged 17.0 yards per grab, and gave opposing defensive coordinators nightmares. His nickname – Cheetah – says it all. Hill is one of the fastest players in the entire league and one of the most dangerous on-field weapons the game has seen in years.
The $18MM average annual value of the deal makes Hill one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL. It’s also shorter than it would have been, if not for his off-the-field issues, and includes a “unique structure” that is almost certainly team-friendly (Twitter link via Terez A. Paylor of Yahoo Sports). Hill will get a relatively modest $5.8MM signing bonus, though the deal includes $35.2MM in total guarantees.
From a football perspective, the deal is a big win for the Chiefs. They boast one of the league’s very best offenses with a core that is locked down for years to come thanks to these recent extensions:
- RB Damien Williams (signed through 2020)
- WR Sammy Watkins (2020)
- TE Travis Kelce (2020)
- C Austin Reiter (2020)
- OT Eric Fisher (2021)
- OT Mitchell Schwartz (2021)
- OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (2022)
- WR Tyreek Hill (2022)
Hopefully all bad karma comes along with it.
Cry much?
His baby momma and kid do
Huh?
No I don’t really cry that often.
Bad karma for what?
…being engaged to crazy pants Crystal and her extortionist family?
…getting hung out to dry by a worthless public defender while at Ostate?
There’s going to be a lot of virtue signalling “men” out there with a truckload of egg on their face in the months to come, when the real story is able to be reported. Tyreek is being way more patient than I would be waiting silently while his side of the story is investigated.
The man has been railroaded, and Nancy’s like you arent making things any better by trying to impress girls that arent even here, with your “wokeness” …pound sand dude.
Another jaded individual who likes to put the facts aside so one of his teams best players can play. Beat his gf in college/ fact abused his gf/fact with voicemails and detailed photos. Child arm being broke by him/ assumption based on his previous history but most likely. Yet he is awarded with this contact? Gross.
I’ll say it before and I’ll say it again if this guy was on your team you’d be the first want to buy his jersey
Another mindless individual who likes to see the worst in people because their absence would help his team, prob Pats or Donkos.
If you read the post, it’s clear I’m saying the “accusations” are bogus. Espinal’s father has been in debt since she was in college. So she latched onto Hill as a future meal ticket for her family. Hill found out he was not her only relationship, confronted her about it in his OSU apartment, and told her to leave. She refused and claimed she was pregnant by him. He picked her up and set her down outside his door. She then gave herself bruises, etc after that…she admits to all this in texts that are now being investigated. But it was all a scheme cooked up by her father.
Hill, on the public defender’s advice, pleads to a lesser charge, convinced he could lose his whole career if pleads innocent but then cant prove it.
That whole charade has predisposed you and Florio, et al…
So 2019… the 1st incident with DCS was the broken arm that has since been determined, by DCS, to NOT be the result of abuse, but probably a fall.
…the 2nd incident was when Hill was OUT OF TOWN, and saw Espinal passed out on the floor through a security camera, and it was actually Hill who called 911.
Hill is only “guilty” of spanking his kid, which he admitted. She, however, has admitted on the FULL audio recording and the texts, that she has used a belt on him.
All this is why itchy trigger-finger Goodell handed out no punishment… and the Chiefs, who released Hunt for simply lying to them, have now not only taken Tyreek back, but extended his contract.
The fact that people still insist Hill is guilty of something and deserves massive punishment… says a lot about those people and their close-minded hatred for all others not on their “team” athletic OR otherwise.
I’ve been saying this on here for awhile but people keep saying what they want. in the end Tyreek is probably a better father than most people on here
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If this guy was on your team you’d be the first one buying a jersey.
As a Cowboys fan who is getting fed up with Elliot or a contract I definitely would want my team to get rid of him over this crap.
Who buys Jerseys?
I dont have exact numbers but id say millions.
Lmao I guarantee you you’re wrong there. Why would I buy the jersey of an abuser?
jdgoat—So if your favorite player was arrested today for domestic violence would you know longer be a fan of that player because of something he did off the field?
Same thing happened with kobe, i threw my jersey in the trash. I support teams not individual players for this reason exactly. These guys are generally morons and shouldn’t be idolized for playing a game.
Sure ya did.
I did you can ask anyone im my family lol. Havent worn kobe merch since.
Um yes of course. Like any other normal person would. Again, I think abusers are pieces of crap. I don’t cheer for them. Never have, never will. I don’t know why your first instinct would be to buy their jersey.
I’m sure this won’t come back to haunt them AT ALL.
im sure there’s a character clause as well. hardly that risky.
Glad it all worked out for him
The Chiefs waived Kareem Hunt when all the facts were in and he lied. Why do you think they drafted Mecole Hardman? They thought Hill was a goner. The facts came back and were what they were. The Chiefs don’t go looking for these players aka the Cowboys and Raiders. They have showed in the past they will give a player a 2nd chance and then give him enough rope. In this case Hill will have his fate decided by his own actions. If he messes up again he will be playing with “ Jerra” I pick my nose on National TV or Chuckie “ clueless” Gruden
Lol. The tired old Raiders comment. We don’t employ domestic abusers anywhere near the rate of Kansas City and it’s wholesome heartland values.
I’m happy for Tyreek. Until there’s proof or evidence, you know, the societal standards that are necessary so the pitchfork holier than thous aren’t running amuck, then good for ANY player.
