Jadeveon Clowney wants the Texans to trade him, and he has a couple of destinations in mind. The standout edge rusher views the Seahawks and Eagles as his preferred destinations, Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle (Twitter link) hears.
Meanwhile, Clowney has also met in person with Dolphins head coach Brian Flores and other members of Miami’s brass, sources tell Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter). Wilson hears the same thing, though he notes that the Dolphins are not his first-choice destination. On the flipside, the Dolphins would be open to working out a lucrative extension with Clowney, once he’s eligible.
As an unsigned franchise player, Clowney does have some leverage in this matter. The Texans have been unwilling to commit to him for the last few offseasons and he might have enough juice to force a trade to the Seahawks, Eagles, or another contender.
The Texans, ideally, would like to keep Clowney, though they’ve previously set an asking price. In the spring, it was believed that Clowney could be had for a second-round pick (Twitter link via Albert Breer of The MMQB).
After firing his agent on Tuesday afternoon, it appears that Clowney is serious about landing the long-term deal he desires.
Seahawks already traded their D because they didn’t want to pony up the money. Eagles have no cap room. Next question.
Both over the cap and spotrac would disagree about the Eagles not having cap space.Over the cap has them with 18.7,spotrac has them around 24.
Eagles also have an ot in Vaitai, rbs Clement and Adams, and possibly extra draft picks in the 3rd,4th & 5th Rds.They’re actually set up pretty nicely to make this move, its just a question of whether or not they’d risk the ot depth and a draft pick or 2 for possibly just 1 year of Clowney.Ofcourse they did sacrifice a 3rd for a half a season of Golden Tate, and they definitely value d-lineman over receivers.
Spot On. I wonder if they’re concerned at all with Vinny Curry Or if they think Daeshon Hall is not a lock at DE4. 1 injury away from DE being a serious concern…As a fan I say do it. Howie will make the money work
The Eagles have about $18m in cap space this year. Next dumb comment.
Eagles have $15-20 million in cap space.
The eagles have 6 mill in cap space next year, one of the worst in the league. They are in no way in a position to sign Clowney long term. So he ain’t going there. Try me again lol
The number is actually about 8.But when you actually look a little more into it,Bradham-9.7,Darby-2.8,Fort-2.0,their salaries are options. That gets them to 21.And they also might’ve drafted a Alshon replacement in Jj,and moving on from Alshon would save another 9.That right there is about 30mil in space, and that’s before any restructuring.
They have way more than one hole to fill, they’re not spending 20 of that 30 million on one guy. Wentz is only making 8 million this year. They’re saving this cap space to roll it over the next few years. They have ALOT of money committed down the road. Not happening.
Plus if they cut all the guys you just listed, they’d have even more holes to fill.
Darby is replaceable.Fort is a special teamer. And I already mentioned Jj is a possible Jeffery replacement.Vaitai is 1 of 4 possibilities at tackle.Clement and Adams are at best 3rd on the depth chart.
Graham signed a 3y-40m deal, his cap hit is 3.5m.M.Jackson got a 5y-50m deal, his cap hit is 2.8m.D.Jackson got 3y-27m,his hit is 3.2…. Clowney is younger, and could sign for 6,7,8 years, stretching his cap hit out more.Theres not a real reason you can come up with for them not to acquire him. They could just bring him in for just 1 season too.
The only guy I mentioned that would be hard to replace is Bradham, and like I said about that 30m number, thats still before any restructuring, and Eagle players have shown a willingness to restructure pretty much every year.
You do realize they had negative cap space to begin offseason and now we have 15-20 million? And cap space next year is always what it is. NEXT YEAR
Exactly! Howie has been an absolute wizard managing the cap.
Seattle needed the picks as well as not wanting to pay Clark what he got from KC. They have enough room for Clowneys cap space this season, as they’d only be looking at him as a rental.
Seahawks can save $7M just by cutting Ed Dickson and Mingo plus they have $23M in cap space already. They traded Clark to not commit long term $ to him. They could use Clowney for this year and agree to not franchise him. If they moved a 3rd and a running back it might work. Hawks already have two 3rd rounders and could get a 3rd back in 2021 if he did sign elsewhere
I told y’all it wasn’t happening…..
It was still a possibility…And I’m not even really that disappointed.Yea,adding Clowney could’ve pushed the Eagles even closer to super bowl caliber. That front line would’ve been scary with Clowney added to Graham,Barnett,Curry,Cox,Jackson & Jernigan. But those other 6 are still solid, and now instead of using up that 18 mil, they can hold onto it and have it roll over to next season.
Again with the ‘rebuilding’ dolphins. Trade a 2nd for QB that most likely won’t start, cut a 28 year old safety, & now talking about adding a very expensive rusher. Is it rebuilding or settling for 7-9, 8-8 once again?
Flores should be the unanimous coach of the year choice if he can work a miracle that will result in 8 Dolphins wins in his first year.
He should be fired if he gets 8 wins! The idea of a rebuild is to draft in there top 3-5, not 15.
Personally, I think Flores saw what happened in AZ last year and isn’t willing to commit to a 3-4 win season. Hence their moves this offseason and talk of trades now. I wouldn’t want to get canned 1 year on the job either.
Flores got a 5 year deal. There is absolutely no way he loses his job next year because of the record. Not saying he can’t get fired but they gave him that deal knowing they were tanking.
Hahaha that’s cute that you think contracts mean something in the NFL
Seahawks have cap space and need pass rush help.
3 team trade.
dolphins , Texans and redskins.
dolphins send stills or parker skins then ol Williams to Texans and clowney to fins obviously that’s just a basic idea of what I think the dolphins could swing if in fact skins want a wr in return as reports suggest and if Texans want a ol back . but it could work not that it will happen but my thoughts
There’s little reason for the Redskins to acquire a WR if Williams leaves because their QB will be on his back nearly every down. Penn and Flowers are only slightly better than a turnstile.
Coach Flo is on a five year guaranteed contract.
I hope the Seahawks’ management has enough sense to just say no to this guy…
Why?
