The Redskins won’t part ways with Trent Williams. At least, that’s what GM Bruce Allen continues to say.
“It’ll be with us,” Allen said when asked where he believes Williams will play in 2019 (Twitter link via NBC 4 Sports).
Williams is reportedly ready to play, though not willing to play for the Redskins. Given his Pro Bowl resume and the dearth of tackles league-wide, nearly every team in the league would have at least some interest in adding the disgruntled veteran to the roster. Still, the Redskins remain dug in.
“I think Trent’s going to play football, yes,” Allen said. “We had a surprising retirement this week in the NFL and I don’t see Trent retiring.”
On a related note – the Redskins’ refusal to part with Williams may keep them out of the Jadeveon Clowney sweepstakes.
As I’ve said with all the other guys who think they are worth more than they really are, Who cares?

If it wasn’t for the Jets being the complete idiots of the NFL, Bell would be a hot dog vendor at Heinz Field now.
I think Bell would have to start a little lower and work up to hot dog vendor. Say… cotton candy to start and see if he can work his way up.
Bell hasn’t taken a snap in almost 2 years. Going to interesting to see when the Jets load him up with 20 carries and 7 targets a game how long he lasts. People who sit out whole seasons in the NFL usually don’t fare well when they return. They usually get hurt. Especially RB’s.
I guess the Kurt Cousins experiment didn’t teach the Redskins anything about how pointless it is to try and hold someone hostage. They will lose Williams and then say something ridiculous like “He wasn’t part of our plans anyway”…as if the FO actually has a plan.
Cousins contract looks like a bargain now.
If you like QB’s who almost always lose against winning teams and who choke in the big games.
Williams is under contract for two more years. Without the Redskins consent, thirty year old Trent Williams will miss out on two prime seasons of his career. A running back’s body will benefit from a season off (see John Riggins). I’m not sure an offensive lineman will in the same way.
