On Tuesday morning, the NFL released a report of every team’s cap space. The total number accounts for the top-51 cap numbers on every team’s roster. Therefore, these numbers will naturally change before next week as teams set their 53-man rosters (although the 52nd- and 53rd-ranked cap numbers (and beyond) for each team will hardly change anything).
It’s also worth noting that there have been a handful of extensions, trades, signings, and cuts since this report was released. However, there weren’t any significant moves that would drastically alter these rankings.
Why are these numbers important at this time of year? Well, rosters will be trimmed on Saturday, meaning an influx of players will hit the open market. While we can’t imagine any roster casualties earning a lucrative contract from a new team, these numbers can help illustrate the monetary advantage one organization has over another. These numbers are also useful in regards to any potential trades or extensions.

So you’re what you’re saying is the Colts can afford Eli Manning…
Bro. That’d be brilliant!
It’s hard to believe that 5 of the 29 analysts at NFL.com think that the Colts are still making the playoffs without Luck. It may be even harder to believe that 3 of them think the Browns are going to win the Super Bowl. Although it’s unlikely that whoever ends up winning the AFC South will be better than 10-6, possibly even 9-7 will do the trick.
I’m a big Colts fan and like the Browns but it’s a lot different Being Hunted as opposed to Up and coming last year.I like Brissett he’s been Seasoned on the Bench like the old days, last time he was playing he had a really bad team around him, this will be a true test it’s now or never and If the Giants struggle Eli could be in the offing?
What’s wrong with Brissett?
Get Clowney to the browns.. swoons*
Hard pass. Clowney just waiting to get paid to shut it down. For all the natural talent he has, he hasn’t come close to his potential. And that’s by choice.
Y can’t the Texans just sign clowney
Because they dont want to.
Surprised the cowboys are in the top 5 in cap space.
JJ is getting cheap in his old age after trying to buy a championship that he can call his own since the other 3 were all thanks to Jimmy Johnson.
Dak – Drafted. Zeke – Drafted. Smith – Drafted. Lee – Drafted. Witten – Drafted. Gallup – Drafted. Tyron Smith – Drafted. Frederick – Drafted. Collins – Drafted. Williams – Drafted. Martin – Drafted. Lawrence – Drafed. Vander Esch – Drafted. Byron Jones – Drafted. Crawford – Drafted. Maliek Collins – Drafted. Awuzie – Drafted. Heath – Drafted. Woods – Drafted.
Cooper – Trade. Quinn – FA. Cobb – FA. 3 of 22 players weren’t drafted. He’s been paying home grown talent for years. Dak and Cooper aren’t in the Top-5 at their position come contract talks. Not in the Top-10. So how is he being cheap? Why would he be eager to pay the maybe 15th best QB the most money in the NFL? And Zeke is 2 years away from FA. I get why Zeke wants an extension, but it makes zero sense for the team to make him the highest paid running back.
Not. For. Long.
How do the GMen only have 5 million in cap space. We traded and released thr whole team.
Bobby Cox. It goes into effect next year. Manning got his bonus so he counts for like 23 mil, Beckham counts for over 20, and Vernon pretty high as well. Not sure why snacks and Apple still count some, but it must because of the singing bonus. Next year they should have around $50-60 in cap space. Maybe in Oct when they are 1-6 they’ll trade Jenkins. I wouldn’t be opposed to them trading Eli to the colts for a pick either. He’s basically a lame duck QB for them anyway.
Irsay, McNair and Haslam’s Wallets!!!!
So did the Colts number go
up more since they don’t have to pay Luck this year?
The cap numbers really don’t mean anything in a vacuum like this. Someone would see the Falcons dead last on the list and think they have a huge problem. The reality is that once they get Julio’s new deal worked out they are in very good shape with their top 7 players locked in until 2023. If Alex Mack (age 33) retires they will free up an additional percentage of his $9M per season there as well.
Then they would need a center…
Perky, I agree. If we move jack rabbit and Eli comes off the books we should be young and have free agent money for 2020. Only issue is Danny dimes basically playing his rookie yr
The entire NFC South is in the bottom half. I have to figure that means some “creative bookkeeping” in the years to come.
