The Colts are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of quarterback help. In addition to Brock Osweiler, the Colts also met with and worked out Matt Cassel and Brandon Weeden, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter) hears.
At this time, the Colts are still unsure about which QB they’ll sign. It’s also possible that Indy will wait to see how cuts shake out over Labor Day Weekend – there could be several experienced signal callers available from which to choose.
The Colts’ QB room, of course, was shaken up when Andrew Luck abruptly announced his retirement from the NFL. That left Jacoby Brissett, a solid QB in his own right, as the club’s new starter. For now, Chad Kelly stands as the team’s QB2, though his two-game suspension will require another passer to step in, at least as a stopgap solution.
Cassel, 37, spent last season as Matthew Stafford‘s backup in Detroit. He threw a grand total of 17 passes in 2018 and has made just two starts in the last three years.
Weeden, who will turn 36 in October, has split time with the Cowboys and Texans in recent years, though he did not take the field in 2016 or 2017. The former first-round pick has a career 6-19 record with most of those appearances coming with the Browns in his rookie season.
Jeff George still lives in Indianapolis.
They will probably phone Matt Hasselbeck first.
Bubby Brister
Wow, are they interested in VD, Herpes and Flesh eating disease too? I’d peruse the Cut list first.
Just remember that Weeden was a first round pick and went before Wilson, Cousins, and Foles
Huh? Mandarich and Rueben Foster were first round picks too and Blew Chunks. Where he was drafted doesn’t mean anything. In fact, it means less than nothing. Bad is Bad.
Just saying the other QB options browns had
I don’t think he was trying to say the he’s better than those guys
Uncle get your facts straight,Mandarich and Foster are Apples and Oranges,Foster had Law problems and Injuries but a good player , Tony was a bust.
Leave it to the Browns to waste a first round draft pick on a 28 year old rookie.
Um Philly did on a firefighter whose only contribution, and a great one at that, was for tending to a fallen teammate having a life threatening emergency.
The Cleveland Browns have been a complete disaster since they were resurrected 20 years ago. It’s cruel for so many people to give their fans so much false hope this season with all the attention surrounding the team right now. Once they lose at home to the Titans next week they will start to realize that this is the same team that has been one of the worst in the NFL for the past two decades.
That Chad Kelly pick up actually is something now if he can stay on the right path. Let’s not forget before he got into trouble again he was pretty close to getting a start in Denver
Let’s not forget that Brock Osweiler started 11 games in Denver.
Colts fans are asking if this QB competition will be as exciting as the one between Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky.
Cross eyed – this is for backup insurance, a lot different then Painter. Brissett is a whole lot better than Painter & we’ve got more going with coaching than either with Caldwell or Pagano. 8-8 is to be expected, with 9-7 & maybe 10-6.
I’m not buying the Brissett hype especially when Irsay has tried to shop him several times during the past year without anyone showing an interest.
Yep, total hype. There’s a reason they went 4-12 with Brissett in 2017.
Anyone who expects the Colts to go 8-8 (let alone 9-7 or 10-6) is only setting themselves up for disappointment. This team is 6-10 at best.
should only be for 2 games till chads suspension is over
They’ll make a deal with Philly for Sudfeld who is still healing.
I doubt they trade for Sudfield; they want someone with game experience to back up Brissett
but what about Kaepernick?! you know you were thinkin it
At least Colts fans have an excuse for their team going 6-10 or worse next season.
