Before Andrew Luck officially retired from the NFL, the Colts considered a plan that would give the quarterback a chance to reverse course. There was a discussion in the Colts’ front office about placing Luck on injured reserve in order to postpone his final decision, ESPN.com’s Ed Werder tweets.

Of course, that’s not what transpired – although it wasn’t an easy call, Luck was firm in his decision to walk away from the game in his prime years. Plagued by an incomprehensible amount of rehab and physical pain, the former No. 1 overall pick is walking away from the NFL to focus on other interests.
From a football perspective, the Colts are in better shape than most other teams would be in this scenario. They are very are high on their new QB1, Jacoby Brissett, though they may need to find a new QB2 to backstop him. As of this writing, Swag Kelly stands to be Brissett’s backup, though he’ll first have to serve a two-game suspension.
Swag Kelly, huh?
Must be a money thing. His uncle was “Kelly Green”
$wag will be Chad’s players weekend name
Swag Kelly? Shouldn’t you be good to have a nickname? Like for all of Swaggy Ps nonsense he actually was a decent player that could score. Like Johnny Football is just college, once he got to the NFL people stopped with that and say Manziel in the bc he sucks.
never knew nicknames linked
I’m guessing the Colts are be praying that the o-line is massively effective for the first two games of the season. Can’t imagine they have time to sign anybody and get him up to speed in case he has to take over due to an injury to Brissett.
“What do I do??”
“Hand it to the running back…”
How about “Irrelevant Kelly”? I mean, technically it’s true.
Actually, there is a “Mr. Irrelevant” Kelly (HOFer Jim’s nephew, Chad) who may be available but he’d probably have a suspension, too, thanks to his legal troubles.
Retraction. Feel dumb for not realizing it is the same guy.
Just think he could have done this at a better time. Two weeks before the start of the season just seems to be selfish, and immature.
Irsay probably told Luck he would be allowed to keep a large portion of his contract money if he delayed the decision. How many Colt fans would have rushed out to renew season tickets months ago if Luck had announced his retirement at that time?
Injuries don’t care what time of the pre-season it is. Luck had just run out of runway in terms of beating the pain and playing hurt. His body was in worse condition than he expected. It’s a smart call: if you’re not going to play your best and you’re risking injury, better to call it a day.
That’s why it’s called pro football. It’s played for money, it’s not a matter of life and death. Luck chose life over football and that’s a wise choice.
I believe Luck is also an expectant daddy which tends to change one’s perspective and priorities…as I’m sure your aware. Love that avatar btw.
Swag rhymes with…
No longer any LUCK in Indianapolis !!
Anyone who thinks the Colts are in good shape with Jacoby Brissett as their starting QB has a very low football IQ.
