The Dolphins have fired offensive line coach Pat Flaherty, according to a team announcement. To take his place, the team has promoted analyst Dave DeGuglielmo.
It’s a surprising twist for a number of reasons, including timing. Flaherty was set to implement a new blocking system, but the Dolphins were unwilling to give him the length of training camp to get results.
DeGuglielmo and Flaherty worked together while with the Giants, but DeGuglielmo is now supplanting Flaherty as the ‘Fins OL guru. DeGuglielmo, 51, offers vast experience as an offensive line coach at both the collegiate and NFL level. He’s worked for Miami before, as he was the club’s line coach from 2009-11. Last year, he helped transform the Colts’ offensive line into one of the NFL’s best before his surprise ouster in January.
So the OC & O Line coach are gone before August. Rosen has to hate that another disaster season is in the mirror.
In the mirror?
Looking him in the face. Right in front of him. So to speak.
Gotcha. He shouldn’t worry. He should just play hard and wait to be traded next year.
Ugh. I feel bad for that kid. No chance to succeed with all this chaos and firings.
And we know they will draft Tua if their tank mission is successful.
I think this is an upgrade.
I like the move. I also like the straight shooter approach. Why wait until the season starts if you already know the coach isn’t cutting it. As far as Rosen; the best thing he can do is learn from Fitz from the sidelines. Only insert Rosen when it’s a sure win/loss game.
I agree that there’s no sense in keeping the guy around if he’s truly the wrong man for the job but I wonder how fair of a shot he’s had to make an impression this early
Well, he’s been given a Very fair shot, this far.
“DeGuglielmo and Flaherty worked together while with the Giants.”
So are these the guys that deserve credit for the amazing development of Ereck Flowers?
