On Wednesday, the Patriots filed tampering charges against the Texans for their attempted hire of Nick Caserio as their next GM, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). The NFL is now expected to gather relevant informant to open its investigation against the Texans.
Soon after the Texans’ surprise firing of GM Brian Gaine, the club was immediately linked to Caserio, the Patriots’ VP of player personnel. Initially, the belief was that the Patriots could not block Gaine from taking the job since it would be a clear elevation in titles and responsibility. But the Patriots, who are intent on keeping Caserio, may have found another way to ward off Houston.
The NFL’s anti-tampering policy states that “any interference by a member club with the employer-employee relationship of another club or any attempt by a club to impermissibly induce a person to seek employment with that club or with the NFL” is impermissible. Reading between the lines, it sounds as though the Patriots believe the Texans engaged in direct talks with Caserio before getting the green light from New England.
The Texans firing of Gaine the night after the Patriots’ ring ceremony set off some alarm bells in New England, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter) hears. Now, the league office must make a ruling before the Texans proceed with their planned hire of Caserio.
Sounds like the Pats are trying to bypass the promotion rules by crying tampering.
How does this article sound like they are bypassing rules or crying? Typical hater.
He’s a Jets fan that just read the headline.
Because they are always bypassing rules and then cry when they get caught? Where have you been, typical Pats fanboy.
Lol! Jets fan ! Lol! Don’t mind him he is just a freshman in high school that doesn’t understand the game of football! Berger and madman don’t understand that is you can prove another club tampered with your employees , you can awarded draft pics in next years draft! But then again, you can’t expect to know a lot about football if your a jets fan and the only thing on TV in New York on Sundays is PBA Bowling !
Well it should go both ways, if it’s proven there wasn’t any tampering then the Patriots should have draft picks deducted. Maybe tampering accusations could then be limited to proven facts.
Shouldn’t call names, but I agree with the Pats n everyone screaming bout them are envious Pat hater. Those are the ones that if their team filed those charges it would be fine.
Sour grapes much?
The article says: “…Patriots…may have found a way to ward off Houston.” Berger, did you read the article?
Your team sucks and all you can say is that the winners are crybabies?
Typical Hater? Lol..
You don’t hate cheaters?
Everybody does, which is why everybody outside Bar-stain hates the Patsies.
NYY42,
I don’t know, ask Alex Rodriguez about cheating!
Just pay for Kraft to get a few massages and this will all go away.
Will this latest controversy have a happy ending for the Patriots?
Patriots always stay on brand don’t they
Evidence of potential tampering come from photos, videos, other proof of interactions between Texans exec @JackEasterby and Caserio at last Thursday’s Patriots ring ceremony, which happened the night before the Houston G.M. job became vacant.
Copied and pasted
things might get interesting
If Houston was dumb enough to do this with a NE employee when its known that team will do whatever they can to try to keep personnel then any punishment they get is on them
What was a Texans employee doing there?
Did the Patriots invite him?
Are you telling me execs from other clubs don’t talk when seeing each other?
Sounds like a Pats setup
Ok for Belly to cheat just nobody else.
Pats should let Nick Caserio go. I wouldn’t want to keep somebody who wants to leave.
But speaking of Nick Caserio, I wouldn’t want to go to the Texans. They have an excellent & talented team but I don’t trust ownership nor Coach O’Brien.
excellent thumb nail image
regardless of weather the Pats cheat or not, they by no means need to tolerate it themselves. if the league wants to give them a free pass, so be it, but that’s not on them.
Easterby was a Patriots employee the last 7 years and he left a few months ago and then became a VP at Houston. Bill O’Brien probably tampered with him but he was at the ring ceremony to get his ring from last year. He was probably recruiting Caserio as he and O’Brien are friends with Caserio. No one said Caserio wants to leave he’s in the middle and should do well either way. Stop with the cheating BS. You all know deflate gate should have been a $25K equipment fine and end of story but I’m glad it wasn’t because Brady had 4 games off and then he was motivated to win #5 and then #6 this year. Don’t hate – admire one of the most successful sports franchises in history. Remember the Commissioner sent a letter to every team telling them to stop taping other teams practices. The Pats got caught because former DC Eric Mangini decided to play tattle tale and he has since said he regrets it. Doesn’t make it right. Belichick apologized to all owners and GM’s and they won’t on to win 3 more SB’s. He’s an incredible football mind as the GOAT with the GOAT QB and a great owner who by the way negotiates the majority of the NFL TV deals and likes a good massage as a single man from time to time. Pats are loaded this year especially on defense and some interesting receivers.
No honor among cheats.
