Emmanuel Ogbah did not report to the Browns offseason program today in anticipation of being traded in the near future, a source tells ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter (on Twitter). The Browns have been shopping the defensive end and it sounds like a deal could be just around the corner.
After a foot injury ended his 2017 season, Ogbah suffered an ankle malady early in 2018. The former second-round pick shook that off, however, and delivered three sacks in 14 games (all starts).Ogbah has 12.5 career sacks and may be an option as a complementary pass rusher or depth piece elsewhere, though it will depend on what the Browns will deem an acceptable return.
There’s no room for Ogbah in Cleveland with Myles Garrett and Olivier Vernon as the starting bookends and Chad Thomas, Chris Smith and Anthony Zettel supporting the high-profile duo. He appears set to follow wide receiver Ricardo Louis, another relic of the Sashi Brown era, out the door.
Hope the chiefs get him
This has the Patriots written all over it!
4-5th round pick…..
Try 6th or 7th
Kind of schocking. I get that you want to get what you can for him, but if they are going to make a push, why not ride him this season? He’s not costing you much to bring in on third downs and rush the outside. Then again, I don’t get to watch them play outside of ravens and Steelers game to know how good their depth is behind the starters.
I think that’s the general feeling that browns fans have. Why not just keep him around for this season? He’s a decent starter, but would be a high end backup
I’m not in favor of just giving him away but if you can get a mid-rounder for him then you might as well. Smith and Zettel are decent backups, and Chad Thomas didn’t do anything last year but he was a third rounder. Getting rid of any of those guys to save space for Ogbah doesn’t make a ton of sense.
Plus there’s also the fact that he’s in a contract year. They won’t re-sign him and he’d be a backup at best this year, so it also makes sense to give him a fresh start and a change of scenery so he can try cashing in next year. It benefits both sides to move on.
Meh, I can go either way with this guy. But if they can get a decent pick, take it.
He for sure hasn’t done much, but he’s also had a new defensive scheme and coaching staff every season he’s been there. I understand shopping him as there isn’t a spot for him right now, but Ogbah is skilled enough that the Browns shouldn’t be giving him away either.
Def sounds like a patriots type deal.. let’s see what B.B. has up his sleeve.
The Pats need people who can breath and have 4 limbs. Do they even have more than 35 legitimate players rostered right now?
Cowboys? And then they trade Lawrence for picks.
