A 2017 second-round pick, Malik McDowell saw an ATV accident change his NFL fortunes. And the Seahawks are finally moving on from the one-time well-regarded defensive tackle prospect.
The Seahawks waived McDowell on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. This marks the end of the Michigan State product’s run in Seattle.
McDowell reverted to Seattle’s IR list last year upon being waived. He’s now unattached, but Rapoport adds the 22-year-old lineman hopes to continue his career. One of the top-rated defensive lineman two years ago, McDowell tallied 24.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks in 32 games at Michigan State.
What a waste of a pick.
So has this guy somewhat back to being healthy again?
Because they knew when they picked him he was going to crash his ATV and sustain a career-ending head injury………. OK
Waste as in they got nothing from that 2nd round selection.
What’s his current health status?? As in, does he even have a chance of playing this season??
Depending on how serious his injury was/is, if it isn’t that serious, I’d imagine someone would pick him up quick, fast, and in a hurry..Even if he is out for the next season, I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone sign him to a two-year deal, just to take a chance on him being healthy the following season at a discounted rate..
I’d love the 49ers to scoop him up, but that has to be bad news for his health if the Sea hawks are just willing to let him go..
If anyone has any updates on his health, please fill me in…
Nevermind, I didn’t know he apparently suffered a serious head injury. I havent found any more recent updates, from what I did read, it is unlikely that any other team’s doctors would give him the okay, and say he’s healthy enough to play.
Yeah, last I heard was that he couldn’t even do simple stuff like tie his shoes. Traumatic brain injury, and the fact that he never speaks on behalf of himself while statements are put out for him tells the story I think. That decision to jump on an ATV with no helmet zapped his future.
