After losing guard J.R. Sweezy to the Cardinals, the Seahawks are focused on keeping one of their other free agent linemen. Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times writes that the front office “remains hard at work” at retaining D.J. Fluker.
A league source told Condotta that the Seahawks and Fluker’s camp were “still talking” as the two sides worked towards a resolution. This is the first reported interest in Fluker, although he’ll likely garner more suitors as the free agent class dries up.
The 28-year-old offensive lineman joined the Seahawks last offseason after having spent the 2017 campaign with the Giants. The former first-rounder proceeded to start nine of his 10 games with Seattle, as a hamstring injury forced him to sit out a handful of games. Pro Football Focus wasn’t particularly fond of his performance in 2018, ranking him 68th among 77 eligible offensive guards.
Earlier today, Sweezy left Seattle to ink a two-year deal with the Cardinals.
Who cares, the seahawks havent signed, talk too or traded for anyone to improve for this upcoming season, instead they chose to watch from the sidelines like cheerleaders…So frustrating from a fan who has been watching since the seahawks came into the league…maybe they are shooting for the number 1 pick in next years draft, that is the only excuse for this….very disheartening, the front office needs to get its but in gear and do something worthwhile, oh wait all the good players are gone, mostly 3rd stringers are left.
So you would rather have them overpay for “star” players that would take a ton of cap space and keep us from resigning guys like Frank Clark, Bobby Wagner, Russell Wilson, Jarran Reed who are all free agents next year? Only desperate teams/GM’s do that because they have no ability to develop drafted guys into players that fit a system. The majority of the teams that went out and spent stupid money so far are teams that were bad last year and have a reputation of being bad. Seahawks and other teams who consistently make the playoffs build their teams through drafting and signing lower tier players that are much cheaper and have the same production as guys getting paid at the top of their positions.
Im not saying spend stupid money as others are, Im saying put some stock where the online needs to be upgraded..we have a whopping 4 draft picks, we will get a few of them resigned probably by the end of the year or early next year, but doing nothing is just stupid,we have lost 5-6 players and have not signed any replacements, i seriously doubt we will get comp picks either, we didnt last year.
If the price was right then yes I completely agree we should upgrade where it’s needed. But for the price teams are paying right now for middle of the pack players is ridiculous. Justin Coleman getting paid the most in the NFL as a nickel corner is the biggest joke I’ve ever heard. And I guarantee through trading back in the draft will end up with 6+ picks this year. And those players we do take will be just as good if not better than every player we lost in free agency this year (except for Earl) in 1-2 years and will be significantly cheaper.
PCJS never sign top free agents. Teams always overpay. They always find value in 2nd or 3rd wave of FA.
