While plenty of teams will surely express interest in Steelers receiver Antonio Brown, it sounds like a handful of teams have been particularly aggressive. ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweets that three teams have “shown the most interest” in the wideout: the Raiders, the Redskins, and the Titans.
It’s not too surprising that these three teams are seemingly emerging from the pack, as they all struggled with wide receiver production in 2018. In fact, as ESPN’s Field Yates tweets, the Titans (seven), Redskins (eight), and Raiders (nine) were all in the bottom-three for touchdowns by receivers last season. For comparison’s sake, Brown finished the campaign with a league-leading 15 touchdown receptions.
It’s been almost a month since Brown requested a trade from the Steelers, but few teams have definitively been connected to the receiver. We heard earlier this week that the Jets were considering making a move for the veteran, although they had yet to reach out to Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, Michael Silver of Sports Illustrated tweets that we should “keep an eye” on the Saints during this sweepstakes, and several other reporters have backed his sentiment.
We also heard about the Raiders interest in the receiver yesterday. The organization is a natural fit due to their need for talent and their draft capital, but our own Zach Links noted that the Steelers would be unlikely to pry away the fourth-overall pick. Instead, the Raiders’ pair of late first-rounders could be in play. Half of the Raiders receivers depth chart is set to hit some form of free agency, and the team will presumably be looking for an upgrade on Jordy Nelson as their top receiver.
It sounds like Redskins coach Jay Gruden will be battling with his brother to acquire the star receiver. With Alex Smith‘s future in doubt, the organization will also presumably be seeking another quarterback to compete with Colt McCoy. You could assume that Brown’s presence in Washington would improve their chances of attracting one of the top free agent signal-callers.
The Titans have struggled to surround Marcus Mariota with elite weapons during his brief career, although former first-rounder Corey Davis did take a major step forward last season. Adding Brown to the picture would surely improve the team’s chances of returning to the postseason.
Not a Redskins fan, but it would be interesting to watch them if they could get Brown, Bridgewater with a healthy Guice back. Let’s see it!
AB + Pittsburgh 2020 3rd round pick to Washington for their first round pick or AB to Oakland for their 2nd 1st round pick
no way Oakland should give up any of their firsts for brown.
they arent getting a 1st for him.. Oakland has the highest 2nd and 3rd rd of the team so they dont have to give up a 1st..and neither will the others
AB to Oakland for the Raiders 2 late first rounders. or a late first rounders and early 2nd. boom, done. then he can finish his career in mediocrity and remember the “old days” when he was on a great team.
Don’t know if I’d call these recent Steelers teams great
he has a ring. better than he will see with any of these three suitors
Ummm…he he has rings I’m sure, but none of them are SB rings
The Titans definitely need an upgrade at WR, but man, with his age, the $$ it’ll take to sign him and his chemistry killing reputation, not sure it would be a wise move for them. Instead, bolster that O-line so Mariota has some time to throw.
“With his age”. Dude doesn’t drink or smoke, works out like 20yr old, EVEN still, after his 3rd contract. His chef prepare EVERY meal, so all of the “With His age” comments means absolutely squat. If you don’t believe what he does, you can do what A LOT of disgruntled Steelers fans do and stalk his Instagram to see for yourself.
If Vrabel is smart, and Mike is. He stays the hell away from this cancer to the locker room
How was that happy ending, bob?
Out of those 3 teams mentioned if the Steelers really want to be jerks and send him to the worst possible team. Send him to the Redskins. Who knows who will b there QB. There cap is eaten alive by Alex Smith’s number. And u add him with Josh Norman and there will b plenty of headline grabbing comments to keep that front office busy with distraction questions.
would likely prefer to deal him to the nfc as well
it will be Brown for Norman and a pick to offset the $$$
As much as I’d love to see him in New Orleans I think he would take targets away from Michael Thomas & act as if he runs the team
Yea… just because he has beef with a QB that goes out his way to call him out, plus beef with management that allows the QB to get away with it, doesn’t mean he wants to run the team. AB’s presence would make Thomas even a better performer, because AB definitely would assume most of the double teams. I guarantee Brees would love to add another weapon to arsenal.
This just shows you how out of touch Gruden is. Gets rid of any one worth of value , guys the team, and now wants a 31 year old cancer.
People here going to be crying if/when the Raiders give up the 2 bottom of the first round picks for Brown.
Gruden gave up an early third round pick for Martavis Bryant. Colbert should stay in constant communication with him.
If the Steelers can get a late 1st or high 2nd for him and (combined with their own 1st and 2nd) draft a CB, a LB and a WR of pedigree, they will be a better team than recent years where they had big names but many holes.
