The Giants’ moves to add veterans Kevin Zeitler and Golden Tate while also trading one of the most talented players in team history in Odell Beckham Jr. have confused many this week. Eli Manning‘s status appears to be unchanged as well, further complicating New York’s status.
While the Giants’ acquisition of the No. 17 overall pick could be interpreted as gaining a major asset in an effort to move up and draft Manning’s successor, that may not be the Dave Gettleman-led front office’s line of thinking. The team is not believed to be interested in packaging its two first-round picks to move up for a quarterback, Matt Miller of Bleacher Report notes.
Instead, many around the league believe the Giants are targeting a defensive lineman with their No. 6 overall choice, with Miller adding those sources point to Big Blue targeting a quarterback or wide receiver with the Browns pick.
Mentioned earlier this offseason as being likely to draft a quarterback with an early-round pick, and if so they would select Manning’s heir apparent in Round 1, the Giants then shocked the football-following world by trading Beckham to the Browns. The Giants could be in position to land Dwayne Haskins at No. 6, but that is not certain. Two quarterbacks have gone of the board in the top five in the past four drafts.
New York also has significant needs on defense. Olivier Vernon and Landon Collins are now on other teams, leaving the Giants with little in the way of long-term pieces at any defensive position. (Though, they do have Dalvin Tomlinson and B.J. Hill up front.) So it would be understandable if the team felt it had to address its defense early. But by the time the Giants pick at No. 17, assuming that is where they stay for their second first-round pick, Kyler Murray, Haskins and possibly Drew Lock will be off the board.
If this is truly the plan then they are beyond help and will start to become the joke of the NFL
Start?
Nobody knows what the Giants will do next !!
Trade back from 6 and collect picks. Then either trade for Rosen for draft a developmental 1st rounder w/ the latter pick. Whoever is QB’ing there needs lots of help.
Agree, trade back from #6 get additional picks, trade for Rosen as Haskins will be no more than a backup QB in the NFL .
I think that I’d wait till next year for a stronger QB class if I were the Giants. Maybe they can make a trade for Rosen and see where he’s at.
They shouldve drafted Darnold last year though. As a Jets fan, I am so glad they didnt.
Giants should trade the number 6 & 17 to the Raiders for the 4, 27 & a 3rd rounder
Draft Haskins and they won’t be losing a 1st rounder
I think the Raiders would be ok with dropping 2 spots in the top of the 1st in order to move up 10 spots at the back & gain a 3rd rounder they lost to Pitt
I’m at a loss to figure out what the ‘plan’ is for the Giants. One minute it seems as though they are trying to retool and try to win ( the FA signings of solder, Stewart, Martin, etc). Then they seem to be in full rebuild mode ( trading OBJ, Harrison, Apple, letting Collins go, etc).:
All the while holding onto a 38 (soon to be 39) year old QB counting over $23m on the cap. Now the signing of Golden Tate to a 4 yr contract with over $25m guaranteed? I have no clue what they are doing or what their plan is.
I don’t think they are rebuilding. They are clearing out the locker room and bringing in team players and good locker room guys. Also the defensive guys didn’t all fit their scheme.
If the Giants are bad this year, they’re lined up perfectly for one of Tua, Fromm, Herbert. They could go 1, 2, 3.
At 6, either trade back & accumulate more picks or stand pat and take Allen/Sweat. At 17 take the highest graded OT left on the board. Williams, Dillard, Ford, Little, Risner one is going to be there. Heck I would probably take two between 17 and 37 b/c Solder is on his way out. But I could see them going Corner or WR a 37. They need to target a Center as well, no real stand-out though.
I would trade for Rosen if they can get him for either a 2nd or 3rd. No roster bonus to be paid out. I like your idea of trading back at 6 depending on what they get. That teams 1st, and then a pair of 2nds or a 2nd and a 3rd.
Giants trading for Rosen
ROSEN sucks GIANTS WOULD HAVE MADE A RUN LAST YEAR IF NOT FOR ARE DEFENSE WE GOT TWELVE PICKS PICK UP A COUPLE NASTY EDGE RUSHERS ALL DEFENSIVE PLAYERS AND WIN ANOTHER SUPERBOWL ITS THAT SIMPLE
The Giants are officially a complete cluster@#$%. They’ve actually managed to make the Baltimore Orioles look like a well run organization.
GIANTS NEED DEFENSIVE PLAYERS WOULD TAKE 2 EDGE RUSHERS AT 6 AND 17 THEN TAKE WHOEVER THE BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER LEFT AT 38 AND KEEP IT GOING EVERY PICK SHOULD BE DEFENSIVE PICKS
