The Giants have internally considered a trade for Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen, according to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY. However, those conversations have been extremely preliminary, as the Giants are still unsure about Rosen’s availability.
Rumors of the Cardinals targeting quarterback Kyler Murray have swirled over the last couple of months and nothing is certain on that front with less than one month to go before they take the podium. Recently, Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury did his best to quiet talk of the Cards drafting the former Oklahoma quarterback and moving on from Rosen, the UCLA product who was selected with the No. 10 overall pick last year.
“People have said a lot of things that are misconceptions, if you will,” Kingsbury said of the Rosen speculation. “Josh is a tremendous player, I’ve always thought, watching him at UCLA. He played his best football in a spread system, some similarities to what we do. He’s a tremendous thinker, very cerebral, can throw it with anybody.”
The Giants, meanwhile, are armed with the No. 6 and No. 17 overall picks in this year’s draft, but they’re not 100% sold on any of this year’s top QBs. Rosen could be had for a lot less than a first-round pick, and he has some fans in the building.
The giants have to do something at qb. Eli helped them win 2 rings but he’s about as washed up as his brother now.
Saquon’s clock is ticking and they got rid of the Giants best target in the passing game. Get a young QB yesterday and see if he can develop. With a young guy at least there would be an unknown potential. With Eli they know the best case scenario is 7-8 wins.
Saquon’s clock is ticking? Seriously?
haha, I wanted to say something about that as well, but excused it as maybe thinking about how short some RB careers are.
Maybe he meant team control?
Every clock is ticking I guess but geez going into year two?.?…
Both team control and clock. RBs have a short span. It everyone can be AP or Frank Gore in terms of longevity. If they get the QB in 2020 and it takes him a couple of years to develop then its wasting Barkley.
*not everyone
Eli can keep playing his performance hasn’t dropped off at all
Kingsbury wants his protege, Murray. He’s blowing smoke so he can squeeze the Giants for one of their firsts.
They’re not getting a first fit Rosen. Not a chance
In the very unlikely event they do get a first for Rosen, it won’t be from the Giants.
From the link about support “Some in the Giants organization liked Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen in the draft last year, but it sounds like he ranked third or fourth out of five first-round QBs on their board…”
If Josh wasn’t a top QB last year, why would he be one now?
The article stated the giants aren’t sold on any QBs in this draft and feel Rosen could be cheaper than a first round pick.
It didn’t say they think he’s a top QB. Probably just better than Eli and cheaper than a first round pick.
If Rosen was 3rd or 4th in last years class of QB, he most likely would be 1 in this years class. That’s why!
That doesn’t make him good. If the Giants weren’t sold on him last year, why now? Just because they need a young QB? They have drafted young QB’s for the past few years. Use them rather than waste a 1st round pick on a player don’t think much of.
And the same reasoning would apply to selecting one of the college QB kids in this draft….why take anybody if you’re not sold on the ability looking forward just to appease all the “fans” that are calling for change form Eli!
You can’t use young QB’s if they can’t play at the NFL level….college is a whole different deal.
I agree. If they didn’t like Rosen and don’t like this group; wait. I’d trade nothing more than 3rd for Rosen. Cards knew about the Kliff’s quote before he was hired. They felt they made a mistake last year. It happens.
Also keep in mind if they trade let’s say a 3rd for Rosen, you are getting a 1st round player without having to pay him 1st round signing bonus money. Since AZ has paid that out already.
But maybe it was their draft positioning. They may not have been sold on him enough to take him with 2nd overall pick, and also because they loved Barkley. but there is a lot more upside and lesser expectations if only giving up a mid round pick for him.
He’s not. But a big difference in drafting Rosen at number 2 last year vs giving up a 3rd or a 4th this year. He last two years they have wasted 3rd and a 4th on QB’s that are barely rosterable. At least if they got Rosen he would have a shot of developing into a starting QB.
If they can get Rosen for anything other reasonable deal not including either of their first round picks they should jump on the deal and let Rosen learn/share time with Eli. Much better option than going after Hoskins and you could pick an OL with your fist pick and maybe trade your second pick for a pair picks (maybe a 2 and a 3)
Why on earth would the Giants trade the 17th pick for a weak package like a 2 and a 3? What are you smoking? For reference last year the Packers traded the 14th to the saints for the 27th a 5th and a first this year. At the very least if the Giants trade back from 17 they better be getting 2 1sts in return but it is Gettleman so I wouldn’t be surprised if he traded 17 for a conditional 7th.
He’s a Cardinal, therefore Gettleman will trade for him.
I don’t think Rosen is worth any more than the 2 nd round pick and I think for that high a pick, big blue should get Rosen plus another pick.
Agreed. If I were the Giants, offer would be 2nd rounder in exchange for Rosen and another pick (4th or 5th round). That 2nd rounder is a higher one, so makes sense for Kingsbury to get his guy Murray and add talent.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up being a 3rd and, say, a 6th or 7th for Rosen. Or maybe a 3rd this year and a 4th or 5th, possibly conditional which one, next year.
Does Josh Rosen really seem like a NY guy? I think he’d be better off in Miami. But if he does go to NY then I think a second would more then satisfy the Cards
Gods, yes, I think he seems like he could be a NY guy. I think he’s a better fit for the Jets than the Giants – think of the old Broadway Joe vs. St. Francis cultural comparisons back in the late 60’s – but, yeah, I think he could handle NYC and the NY press.
I’ll admit that I have never seen Rosen in pantyhose but I strongly suspect he would never have the impact in NY that Namath did.
Liar
I’m pretty sure the Cardinals are getting a first round selection for him.
I’d be stunned. Stunned. Maybe a second. Maybe.
If a team trades a 1st for him the GM should be fired and the owner should be forced to sell. Rosen isn’t good at all I personally wouldn’t go higher than a 5th but I could see someone trading a 3rd and 5th.
Lol. Antonio Brown didn’t fetch a 1st round pick and you think Rosen will? Whatever you’re smoking, give me some!
Different story with AB. Teams knew he wasn’t going to remain a Steeler.
Not a chance. If they want to trade him, they’re not really in the best position. Rosen isn’t exactly a hot commodity and if the Cardinals want to draft a QB, then they will have to deal Rosen. Unless of course they want two 1st round QBs on their team.
If he only cost their 2nd that’s not bad. Cards dumping this guy pretty soon tho makes you wonder.
I think it’s an example of the whole “New regime wants their own QB” thing on steroids.
I don’t think you can lay 18 season on Rosen, but he can’t be worth a 1st rounder. That value isn’t there. Maybe the Giants 2, but I would also want an extra pick from Az.
Don’t want Rosen.
When has he ever completed more than 56% of his passes in his career? …………….wait for it………………………………………………………
NEVER! Don’t do it Gettleman.
He’s only played one season, so I’m not sure you need to say ‘when has he ever’. Also, many successful QBs have played horribly in their first year. It actually used to be the norm.
Terry Bradshaw. Ohmigod, under 40% of his passes completed, and four interceptions for every TD thrown.
And Rosen’s rookie numbers were actually better than Eli’s.
OP is complaining about 56%, meanwhile Peyton Manning threw 56.7% with 28 INT. It can happen when rookies are tossed into action. Like you say, Eli’s numbers were awful and they won two SB with him.
elways completion percentage was crappy and he won 2 titles, is a HOF and runs a team
He is under the rookie wage scale
He has a year of NFL experience
He was rated as high as Darnold by many.
He was in a no win situation with Arizona
Jack that is well said. Rookie contract, got the first year of growing pains out of the way, and was highly touted along with Darnold, Allen, Baker, etc. plus the 1st round signing bonus is already paid out.
A lot of people are going to be wrong about what AZ can get for Rosen. The talk of a 3rd is absolutely ridiculous. He’s a young potential franchise QB making practically nothing. He’ll get at least a 1st. The Vikings gave up a 1st and a 4th for Bradford! Not a Cardinals fan.
Well the Vikes aren’t exactly the brightest team. 85 m guaranteed for cousins.
Murray will be a bust. Arizona should keep Rosen and build around him. He was a rookie QB on an awful team. If he is “cerebral and can throw with anyone” then keep him and give him a chance to shine with some talent around him. Use the #1 pick for a stud to fill a position of need. Seems like an easy call to me.
I can’t speak to whether Murray will be a bust except to say that his size petrifies me, and only one full-time year in college worries me. Otherwise, I couldn’t agree more.
Can’t say I’ve liked a scrambler since Fran and Joe Kapp. They take too much pounding and don’t seem to last. Supposedly Haskins is a pure pocket guy, but still only one year of starting 1 A ball. Any thoughts on him compared to Rosen?
Okay a 2nd round pick for Rosen makes the most sense. Now, if you are Dave Gettleman, giving a 2nd round pick is not much if you think he is a franchise qb. I see him as an Andy Dalton who has the potential to be as good as Matt Stafford…Forget it. Go get Haskins with the 6th pick. He has all of the skills and college stats to be much more than that and played against high level competition.
Are you an NFL evaluator? A lot of people like Rosen over Haskins. Haskins had one year in college.
Just my opinion but nobody has anything negative to say about Haskins other than his inexperience! His college stats are up there with the best – completion percentage, yards per attempt, td/int ratio etc. He is the real deal.
He’s going to New England…
Bra the cardinals should have offered something like Josh Rosen Christian Kirk and their 2020 first round pick for Odell.
Murray-Johnson-Beckham Jr. WOW. Talk about selling tickets
Card Fans – We need to get onboard with the fact we are getting Murray. But there is one great side to this story. If Murray flops we will be close enough to the bottom to select Lawrence next year
