After being traded back to Philly this afternoon, it sounds like DeSean Jackson has already inked a new deal with the Eagles. ESPN’s Tim McManus tweets that the veteran receiver will rework his contract to the tune of three years and $27MM. The deal includes $13MM guaranteed (via ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Twitter).
Jackson had one season remaining on his contract at $10MM. The veteran initially signed a three-year, $33.5MM deal with the Buccaneers in 2017, but Tampa Bay started shopping him only a year into his contract.
After being selected in the second round of the 2008 draft, Jackson proceeded to play his first six NFL seasons with the Eagles. He earned three Pro Bowls during his tenure in Philly, including a 2013 campaign where he finished with nine touchdowns and a career-high 1,332 receiving yards.
Jackson was solid during his stint with the Redskins, but he hadn’t show the same big-game ability during his time with the Buccaneers. Perhaps teaming up with Carson Wentz will help the 32-year-old finish with his first 1,000-yard season since 2016. As our own Sam Robinson pointed out earlier today, Jackson is an upgrade over the team’s recent deep-threat acquisitions, Torrey Smith and Mike Wallace.
That’s a ton of money for a 33 year old burner receiver. I suppose high risk high reward. Time will tell.
He led the league in yards per catch in 2018. He has the 3rd highest yards per catch career-wise. He hasn’t lost his speed from what I’ve seen. With Alshon Jeffery on the other side, Nelson Agholor in the slot plus Zach Ertz (and sometimes Dallas Goedert as well) at tight end, Wentz is going to have a ton of targets.
If wentz can stay healthy, not likely.
I don’t know about that. It was a freak injury on the ACL. The spinal fracture should be healed. I predict that Wentz will play all 16 games in 2019.
I’ll take the under on that one
Way to go out on a limb, BTW there is only the under to bet on that…SMH
It’s only 13 in guaranteed
He’ll earn his $13m guaranteed and then be cut before year three. That’s how these deals work right?
Great deal for the Eagles. If Wentz stars healthy…IF..they will have a really good offense. Wentz wasn’t the same last year but I think he will get back to wher he was before the injury. Also like that other signing they made today on the defensive side. Not a Eagles fan but I think they’ll be way better next year.
I’m curious to see how this works out because Desean is a deep threat now playing with a quarterback that doesn’t throw a good deep ball.
Don’t like this signing much. Eagles now have the second highest payroll allocated to WRs ($28.5MM) but it leaves their allocation on RBs near the league bottom ($3.1M). A one dimensional offense is fairly easy to defend against.
Le’Veon Bell, Tarik Coleman and Mark Ingram are out there as FA RBs, among others. I did not see any signings of FA RBs today. I look for the Eagles to extend Agholor and reduce the AAV on his deal.
yea and came into the day with 15mill cap..signed Malik and traded for Desean… they arent going to be in the top RB market
Agohlor isn’t going to stick with a 9 million cap hit. he’s either getting that number lowered via an extension or is getting traded
@fathead source on the cap number?
I’m a buccaneer fan I’m going to miss Jackson we did not use him properly J miss Winston sucks And could not get him the ball I cannot believe he got that much money Which only makes me believe the NFL Front office people don’t know what they’re doing
