The Buccaneers tried shopping DeSean Jackson, but they have been unable to find a suitable trade, Dianna Russini of ESPN.com (on Twitter) hears. So, for now, the Bucs’ plan is to keep the mercurial wide receiver, Russini hears.
Jackson, 32, made a lot of noise about wanting out of Tampa Bay during the season. But, this offseason, new head coach Bruce Arians was vocal about wanting to keep the deep threat in the fold. Arians may still want to smooth things out with DJax, but there’s still the matter of his contract. Jackson is due $10MM in 2019, but that sum is completely non-guaranteed, and that does not sit well with Jackson.
Jackson’s stat line hasn’t been much to write home about over the last two years, but he still has the ability to blow the cover off of any secondary. Last season, he had just 774 yards receiving, but he led the league with 18.9 yards per reception. They say speed is the first attribute to go after the age of 30, but Jackson still has the jets to make big plays happen.
Of course, plans tend to change quickly this time of year, so this is still a situation worth monitoring. Jackson reportedly wants to reunite with the Eagles and an outright release still feels like a possibility.
His stats are crap, but he wants a high guaranteed salary. Be better and you’ll get paid better.
he led the league on yards per reception. If Winston ever threw to him he wouldve had a good season.
I don’t know how anyone can expect a WR to have good stats when Winston is the starter.
Yeah like the poor season Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Adam Humphries had this past season! SMH. Seems like I remember the Bucs having the #1 passing offense in the entire NFL last season!!
So Tampa is planning on keeping all the players of a back to back losing season team. That’s a brilliant business model. Zero cap room to actually get better player’s, so lets just keep the overpaid and underperforming players. Tampa Bay will still not make the playoffs. It doesn’t matter who the coach is in Tampa. It’s the same stupid stuff.
Tampa had the 3rd ranked offense in the NFL behind KC & Rams. But, if you’re referring to the defense under-performing then you have probably have a point.
it woulve been a great move if the Bucs even just dumped him on someone just to get him out. I think the “locker room QB debate” is overrated, but if the guy really is getting shafted by Winston as the numbers show, one of the two would be best gotten rid of. He wont provide terrible value with Winston throwing to him and would probably like to go anywhere elsewhere.
I love how Zach post 2 articles on each topic with different results.
I thought that there was a huge fit here with the Steelers. Trade him there for Morgan Burnett to offset a bit of the salary, and maybe PIT sends back a 6th or 7th. Jackson gets to rebuild his value and Tampa saves a ton of money and rids itself of a disgruntled guy.
Looks like Jackson may go the same route AB did in Pittsburgh. Just saw a tweet with him saying Goodbye to Tampa Bay. If he forces his way out, & more disgruntled players follow suit, it will become a bad look for the NFL.
Have to laugh. Why in the world would Steelers brass want this guy or Odell after the trainwreck of Brown, Bell and Bryant these past few years?
9 hours later he’s traded and already has a new contract. Quality reporting!!
