The Redskins want to re-sign Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, but they’ll have to fight off another interested club. The Bears are scheduled to meet with the veteran safety, tweets Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Chicago has already experienced turnover in its secondary, replacing slot corner Bryce Callahan with Buster Skrine, and now the club needs to find someone to step in for Adrian Amos, who signed with the Packers on Tuesday. Currently, 2016 fourth-rounder Deon Bush is slated to start next to Eddie Jackson in the Bears’ defensive backfield.
The Redskins picked up Clinton-Dix from the Packers at the trade deadline in exchange for a fourth-round pick, but he didn’t move the needle much in Washington. In nine games in the nation’s capital, Clinton-Dix posted 66 tackles, three passes defensed, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. All told, Pro Football Focus graded him as the league’s No. 17 safety in 2019.
Unlike the Redskins, the Bears can offer Clinton-Dix a more realistic chance at contention and the ability to join arguably the NFL’s best defense. Additionally, Washington has already made one large commitment at the safety position (Landon Collins), so it’s unclear how far it’s willing to go to retain Clinton-Dix.
get it done Pace, Gostkowski would be nice as well
Every Packers fan everywhere says yes, Bears, please sign HCD. He’s possibly the least competitive football player in the NFL and he would be a wonderful addition to the Bears secondary.
When you’re playing for a garbage defense all players get exploited. Amos thrived due to the elite talent surrounding him. Dix would do the same
have fun with amos
14 career picks, 1 probowl. Something you’ll never get out of Amos. Career high in tkls for Amos 60; Ha Ha never had that few tkls in a yr. We’ll get him at half the price Packers got Amos for. It would be a nice addition to Bears secondary. Bears add at least 1 more safety thru draft. I can already smell the shat drippin down Danica Rodgers pantleg when he’s running for his life from this Bears D.
Pace refused to accept how bad a signing Cody was b/c of $’s attached to it & cost us a trip to SB by not replacing him b4 playoffs. Highly doubt he’ll throw big money at another K ever again. Find us an Aldrick Rosas. Never pay K’s or P’s. Davis is Howard’s replacement, Bears would be lucky to a get a 5th rd pick for Howard, unfortunately.
Might as well have kept Amos, Dix is not an improvement.
Not necessarily a downgrade either.
cheaper too
Nope. For half the price they get a guy who has something to prove. Can’t put dollars on that. Amos in an average defense will be… average.
“the Bears can offer Clinton-Dix a more realistic chance at contention and the ability to join arguably the NFL’s best defense.”
So if the defense wasn’t broken why this rush to fix it? Yeah I understand our new DC wants to put his mark on the unit but I expect some regression now that Fangio has left.
Sometimes players leave for greener pastures and it turns out to be not so green. No one is “fixing” anything but rather trying to fill holes that were caused when players left.
Your part of the best defense in the league and you leave for “greener pastures”? That makes no sense.
