The Raiders have continually been mentioned as a main suitor for Steelers wideout Antonio Brown, and it sounds like that interest may be mutual. Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal writes that Brown would “welcome the Raiders as a trade destination.”
Specifically, the wideout is intrigued by the team’s impending 2020 move to Las Vegas. Playing in an untapped market is one allure, and Brown would also avoid state income taxes in Nevada. The Raiders were previously mentioned as one of the three teams that have shown the most interest in the All-Pro wideout.
The one sticking point between the two sides regards a long-term deal; while Brown desires a new contract, the Raiders are wary of handing out big bucks to a 30-year-old wideout. As Gehlken writes, the team may decide to go with cheaper options at receiver, with the writer mentioning Tyrell Williams as a potential option.
On the flip side, the Raiders have the assets to trade for Brown (including three first-round picks), so they wouldn’t be taking a giant hit when it comes to draft capital. Plus, Brown would be a massive upgrade in an offense that lacks a dynamic playmaker. Brown finished last season with 104 receptions for 1,297 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Raiders’ leading receivers, tight end Jared Cook and wideout Jordy Nelson, combined for 131 receptions, 1,635 yards, and nine touchdowns.
We heard earlier this week that the Steelers were focused on completing a Brown trade by Friday, and it sounds like they were close to pulling off a deal. Early Friday morning, the Bills appeared to be on the cusp of acquiring Brown from the Steelers, but the deal was ultimately scuttled.
A troublemaker interested in the Raiders and the Raiders interested in a troublemaker. Who woulda thought?
Remember what happened between Keyshawn and Gruden?..
Super Bowl victory?
Gruden ran Keyshawn out of town. It was ugly.
I think that’s the one thing we can say, he’s never brought a guy in that had those personality concerns.
He traded for Martavious Bryant
No he didn’t…he trade for Martavis.
…and he won a super bowl
Here’s a guy whom the world suddenly sees as a me-first player. Truth is, he always was. The team would win but he’d pout if he didn’t see enough passes coming his way. And then JuJu came along. Sheesh
Brown is like a prepubescent child
I try to imagine a locker room with him, Bell, Martavis and Harrison, among others, inside
And Woodley before.
Maybe it’s time to do a little more research into high character, team-oriented guys.
They’ve replaced guys like Troy, Heath, the Beard, Farrior with these kinds of guys. No thanks
Rothlisberger is the “Leader”. That’s should tell you everything you need to know. You Steeler fans have really shown your true colors over the last couple of years. No wonder everyone wants to leave. Be careful what you wish for
Only the cancers want to leave. Your team can have them. See how long it goes before they start bellyaching. You non-Steeler trolls know nothing.
He was there 9 yrs, so I guess could take it. What did Bell do in the locker room that was.
Stop mentioning the Raiders 3 first round picks. Steelers can dream but they won’t get a first. I’d offer a 4 and leave it at that.
Just stated that they have the draft capitol. To theoretically offer there second rounder and a mid rounder and not take a big hit while they still try to rebuild. I’m a Steelers fan and agree they probably won’t get a first for him. But if the Raiders offer that 27th pick (I think that’s what it is) then basically they traded Cooper for Brown and I’d take that trade any day if I were the Raiders
I wouldn’t. Brown only makes sense for a team trying to get over the hump. Packers and Saints should be all over it. No need to have Brown on a team that needs a couple years to build. Carr may not even be the quarterback in Vegas. I’m a Raiders fan and really only an interested in Brown at bargain basement rates.
I wouldn’t either. trading the Cooper pick for Brown is a basic swap. Brown is 5 years older, and a headache and about to more expensive too.
Brown is also about 100x better than Cooper, so there’s that.
definitely agree. But if your rebuilding team gave up a 1st round pick for an aging luxury piece would you do it?
Yeah it’s the discussion of first round picks that I don’t understand. I said I thought he’d bring a 3rd rounder, that might be too high now.
I’m trying to picture the marriage between AB and Vegas, and it makes me smile. He’ll be broke and out of the league within 2 years.
Btw, 1st rounders aren’t candy. So, flippantly saying they could just fork one over for a 31 year, who isn’t a team first guy is a big deal & would very much so provide a giant hit to their draft prospects, especially when it’d eat up a ton of cap space.
In other words, you’re saying it’s fine if the Raiders trade a #1 for AB, you’ve got 2 more, but what it really means is, here is a 31 year old WR, now you don’t get the young WR you could’ve drafted or the S & LB you were gonna sign w/ that $. The Raiders lose a lot more than just some random pick.
Are the Patriots & Patriot Fans the only people that understand the difference between making Football decisions based on the Business & not “personal” feelings? People thinking that a guy who produced 1200 yards & 15 touchdowns, while facing mostly double teams is gonna fetch 3rd/4th round picks are crazy. So what he didn’t get a long with the QB, WHO else on the team did he have issues with? Can someone name them? Every team has players that don’t get a long, but this episode played out publicly. People basing trade value on personal opinions are sadly mistaken. I’ll take a 31yr old “me first” with 6 straight 100 rec, who trains religiously for a late 1st, early 2nd pick.
Another question… Is it Normal for a “Me first” “Cancer” to stay in the same locker room for 9yrs? Usually they bounce from team to team to team early on.
That’s hilarious when you think about the “wise Patriots decision” of trading away Garrapolo to the 49ers for only a 2nd round pick. Take away a quality backup and future replacement for aging Lurch Bwady for what reason? Why was Bellicheat so upset about it? Huh.
Brady that won his 6th super bowl less than 2 months ago? YEA… you really won with that comment. What has Garropolo done? Except, show he doesn’t know how to run out bounds correctly.
Full disclosure, I’m not even Pats fan and truly despise them, But they sure seem to make good FOOTBALL decisions and not personal decisions. Steelers can keep underachieving with talent filled rosters.
I don’t get it. If you aren’t a Patriots fan are you saying you don’t understand making business football decisions either? So you’re admitting I should just ignore your imput from here on out
I understand perfectly fine, but the comment was meant literally. Pats organization seems to understand the business over personal aspect of football and their fans tend to embrace it more than others. You can ignore if you want, but my life will go on usual. It’s not that serious
Yep Kraft sure knows how to find a deal when he needs one. Oh and the 15bil loss with his Kraft Heinz. As long as they are getting happy endings that’s all that matters
His teams don’t underachieve. Can your Steelers say the same? Plus, I’m sure he’ll be just fine when it comes to his billions
With that 35th pick being so high in the 2nd round it’s almost as if the Raiders have 4 1st rounders… If any pick is being moved I heard it was the 35th!!!
On the local sports radio station yesterday they asked whatever team you root for, think right now, would you give up a second rd pick for Antonio Brown?
The answer for everyone should be yes because no one your gonna draft will be better than him. A diva wide receiver??? The nerve.
Brown wakes up and gets 1,500 yards.
But who was the last diva receiver who was important to a Super Bowl team? It’s a luxury, not a necessity
Ask that same team if they are willing to give up a high draft pick and make him the highest paid receiver as he enters the decline years for many wide receivers. The position that is probably the most dependent on pretty much all other positions on the field being decently played. Do you think AB would do as well on the Raiders or Bills with their swiss hole cheese of an offensive line?
Would they still do it? i am a jets fan (yes you may feel sorry for me as i do as well). Would i like him on the team? of course, but not at those prices. I would prefer we use that money/draft to strengthen the lines first as the game is won in the trenches.
Personally, I don’t get what the issue is with compensation. If I was a team in the last 1/2 of the 1st rd, and had a way to make it work under the cap, I would be running to give up a 1st rd draft pick for AB. He may be 30, but he is in phenomenal shape. Should be productive for a good 4-5 years. He is a top 3 player at his position, and changes a team offensively immediately. Sure he costs $. What top 3 player at their position doesn’t? I would bet anyone the player who gets taken with that lower 1st never comes anywhere near the player AB is. I don’t understand the Raiders interest in their present spot, and I’m a Bucs fan so it makes no sense, but if the Bucs were a real potential contender I would be beating the table to trade a lower half 1st for him. Plus, as half the people on here seem to attest, all the problems are due to Ben and the Steeler organization. AB is clean.
That last sentence is gonna have Ben apologists coming after you. Don’t you talk bad about Bennie Boy!
To be honest, I’m guessing a large majority of the folks who check this site would also welcome a trade of AB to Oakland…
…or anywhere…
He’s not just another “30-year-old wideout”, he’s one of the best of his era.
But he’s still 30 and not going to age well.
Guess that settles it. Discussion over
Why does he get to say where he goes?
Don’t do it Raiders!
“A lot of holes in the desert, and a lot of problems are buried in those holes. But you gotta do it right. I mean, you gotta have the hole already dug before you show up with a package in the trunk. Otherwise, you’re talking about a half-hour to forty-five minutes worth of digging. And who knows who’s gonna come along in that time? Pretty soon, you gotta dig a few more holes. You could be there all @#$% night.” – Joe Pesci/Casino
