We know that Antonio Brown is not Buffalo-bound, but, beyond that, his situation remains murky. The Steelers still want a first-round pick for the wide receiver and “several teams” are waiting for the club to reduce its asking price before making an aggressive pursuit, a source with knowledge of the situation tells Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
The Steelers’ leverage was already weakened by Brown’s outspoken criticism of the team and his refusal to join the Bills further complicates matters. It’s hard to imagine clubs offering significant draft capital for the star player when they can’t be certain that he’ll show up for work.
Teams such as the Redskins, Raiders, and Titans were in on Brown earlier this month, but no longer appear to be in the chase. We can add the Packers to that list, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Demovsky hears the Packers have not had any conversations with the Steelers – despite their glaring need for receiver help – and won’t jump in now.
Dudes a chump. Let. Him. Sit. For. Three. Years.
Agreed!!! He’ll be a cancer to whichever team gets him.
Correct. STAY CLEAR
People on here have really REALLY dense heads, I don’t know how many times this has to be said but they will not keep him and sit him SO STOP SAYING IT. It’s beyond annoying
Dude! This shouldn’t have to be said, but this is what these folks would LIKE to do, not what IS going to happen! Personally, I would like for him to go find Ricky Williams and smoke blunts with him the rest of his life and get out of the NFL altogether. Again, it’s NOT what’s going to happen, for clarification. At this point, I would approach the Packers and see what combination of 2-4 round picks I could get out of them since they have some extra picks in round 1 & 4. See if Rodgers and Browns ego’s can fit into the locker room!
You sound like you need to go potty
If the Steelers keep him and he decides to sit they don’t pay. If they keep him they still have one of the best WRs in the game. Antonio could be done with the Steelers but he didn’t want to go to Buffalo.
Not to mention the Steelers are committed to 21mil in cap space whether he is on the team or traded. I’d have no problem if they kept him and let him pout all year. Wasting a year of his career and lowering his chances of a higher payday on a reworked contract
It is nice to see someone gets this. Like Pitt should eat $21m, and lose one of the best WR’s in football, and get basically crap back in return to make AB happy. Yea, that makes sense.
If he sits he don’t get paid and his contract is pretty much stagnant. If I’m the Steelers I tell his agent to start going to teams to work out a trade the team wants. If not they keep him and he decides if he really wants to play.
I’d rather take a 3rd rnd pick and move on than keep having to deal with this annoying child.
We can still prob get 2nd tho just to clarify..
Best part of AB trade will be getting him off the roster.. the return is just a bonus.
#triggered
That’ll teach him. Make millions and sit on the bench while the team is restricted by his contract counting against the cap. That’ll work well.
His contract is on the cap even if he is traded. they only have a million by trading him
They either pay him or not, doesn’t matter if he plays. If they keep, him he’s getting 12+ million this season.
Wrong. The cap space is compounded from bonuses into this season at 21mil..
However they only owe 14mil for next year, and 7mil the following year.
So really only handicaps this off-season.
Glaring need at receiver? The Packers drafted 3 receivers last year and have one of the top 10 receivers in the league.
You have to realize that Rodgers with AB, Adams, a good running back in Aaron Jones, and a new, more aggressive coach would be unstoppable
I hate AB but agree he’d be great with ARodge..
Ik hate is a strong word, but he’s beyond a douche , he’s a tool.
so is rodgers
And how much did they help them last year? Insert thumbs down emoji
Davante Adams was the only receiver with prior experience in the league/GB system. Cobb/Allison were injured early on and you can’t expect a ton from 3 rookies.
Okay and how many of those 3 WR are better than AB? 0. If they get AB and depending what they do with defense I’d say they’re the favorites in the North and one of the favorites in the NFC
I agree! Give him the Marcus Allen treatment for a year or two.
I think it would be hilarious if the Steelers didn’t come off their asking price of a 1st round pick and no team trades for him! He would just be dead money because he won’t play for the Steelers which means he would just be sitting out the season getting paid!
If he chooses not to play, he doesn’t get paid. It is better than eating $21m for a crappy mid rd draft pick. This is probably Pitts best option at this point.
He will show up and force the Steelers hand. They will either have to play him or sit him on the bench. While they keep kissing the rapists butt.
If he shows up and plays, then I really think that is what Pittsburgh wanted from the beginning.
If that happens they’ll be 6-10 and in last place.
If AB plays in Pitt next year they finish 6-10. I will bet the over for a thousand Alex. I can’t agree with them being much worse than last year with AB back.
Yup, and he’ll deliberately be a disruption. They have to move him for whatever they can get.
If he is Pitt this season, and becomes a deliberate weekly disruption, they can suspend him without pay, and fine him. They will have multiple witnesses from coaches to players to testify to this from practice. Still a lot better than paying $21m to rid yourself of one the NFL’s best WR’s for no real compensation.
I don’t believe the CBA will let them suspend him without pay for that kind of conduct. And they’ll certainly still take the cap hit. Witnesses don’t make a difference. This isn’t like your job.
It is in every contract of every NFL player. If it weren’t, half of them would either show up for practice and eat cheeseburgers, or just not show up at all.
And they are taking the cap hit whether he is there or not, actually a lessor one if he is there, so that is non sequential. Plus, I’d he chooses not to play, or is suspended for detrimental conduct, Pitt receives the $ back next year vs his cap hit for time missed.
As a Pats fan I was quite sad when I learned the deal was off we would’ve went from worrying about one of the best WR to not even having to cover him cause every throw Allen would throw to him wouldn’t have be anywhere close to catchable
Late round First rounder seems fair for him. He will immediately make any team better. Would love the niners to grab him but wouldn’t want to give up drafting Bosa for him
Looks like ur gonna get him for rnd 2..
Steelers fans just want him gone at this point. Take him for a 3rd for all I’m concerned.
He’s a disgrace so have fun with him post-prime, while getting 100% of the baggage.
He wants to be traded and that is what they are trying to go. He wants to dictate where he goes but no his decision..Under contract enough said…..I would bring him back and suspend him every time he acts goofy.
Kind of is his decision now sadly.. Buffalo should have had the cahonies to trade for him anyways.
Why acquire the headache?
They can do this… suspend him all they want within the CBA, but they still have to pay him.
Haha it’s funny that this trade is totally in his hands now.
Green Bay’s 30th overall selection from NO for Brown and 5th rounder
No and. If the Steelers could get the 30th overall, they should take it and run. But it looks like the Pack are out, sooo…
There’s zero chance Pit is getting a round 1 now. Might as well not even suggest it. I bet it’s a third rounder.
Just ask AB and his agent, “Are you the top WR in the game? Are you still in your prime? Do you feel that is worth two 1st’s, or a 1st this year and 2nd next atleast? If the answer to all 3 is yes, which I am sure they will agree, then you facilitate a trade for that, or close to it. If you can’t in a month, then either mend fences here, agree to let us facilitate a trade, or officially retire.
Why would he help the Steelers like that? He’s deliberately trying to sabotage his trade value because he’s mad at the Steelers. And he can do that. And a team that knows the Steelers have to trade AB isn’t going to offer that much. And you think AB would give up the rest if his contract and let the Steelers off the hook if they can’t “mend fences?” Haha hilarious. They’re gonna do what he wants, or he’s gonna stick it to him. He’s not going to do what’s best for your Steelers…
1) I would have proposed this in the beginning. 2) it is what AB has said he wanted – control over his situation- from day one 3) I don’t believe he is deliberately hurting his trade value, I think he is truly “bats”, and in the end is hurting his own ability to negotiate a better financial deal with a new team.
He’s not getting a new contract with a new team. I think he’s sabotaging his trade value to control where he goes, and also to get back at the Steelers. But primarily the first one. He’s sabotaging his trade value to any team he doesn’t want to go to. And I think it’s certainly helping him, hence Buffalo. He’ll get what he wants at the end of the day.
Maybe you are right(?) I can’t understand crazy, so I really could not say. I know it is not because he is smart enough to purposely pull off this complex escapade(I have heard him speak). He may get his way at the end of the day. It would be incredible stupid on Pitt’s part, but I have seen my fair share of stupid front office decisions over the years.
I don’t get the Packers 1st round pick for Brown hype. With a new head coach there’s no chance they risk high draft capital on a WR with known attitude issues with so many other areas to address. They’ll do their due diligence like most teams but at best they’ll offer a 3rd rounder.
Offer him to the Cowboys. Idiot Jerry Jones already gave a first for a player that can demand a cap busting salary or walk in a mere 16 games. Maybe he’ll trade another first.
32 years old how
Much does he have left? Oh and yes he’s a prima donna!
Steelers fans crack me up. Did anyone other than me watch the Steelers-bangles week 17 match up? Without brown on the field the Steelers could only muster 16 points against arguably the worst defense in the NFL. If they are going to keep brown they have no choice but to play him if they don’t play him get ready for a Nother 500 season. While I think the Steelers are smoking some serious shit for demanding a first round pick for a guy that does not want to be there I could see the Steelers getting a second round pick and possibly a third. They would get rid of an attitude problem and get to quality prospect players. But on another subject how many players have to be labeled as an attitude problem who had beef with Rothlisberger before we all ask ourselves maybe Rothlisberger is the problem. Antonio Brown, James Harrison, Le’Veon Bell even offensive coordinator Todd Haley. The only player that has had a problem with Rothlisberger I put on the other player is Bryant. Steelers fans need to face it the cancer in that locker room is number seven. He never puts the blame on his shoulders anytime the Steelers lose a game due to his poor play we hear him in a post game press conference the offense of line was horrible the receivers did not run the right routes our defense dropped the ball. No one else ever sees then never says “this one is on me want to blame someone blame me“.
Green Bay is the Buffalo of the midwest, I’m sure AB would love living in Wisconsin…(eyeroll)
As much as I agree with this, there’s Aaron Rodgers.
Agree, but I can’t imagine that going well. i think it’d turn into a pretty toxic relationship quick, Ben and Rodgers are similar they are both prima donna’s and AB wants to be thhe “guy”. Good luck with that in GB. I don’t see the fit, it’s a small list where AB could go and be successful with the right QB. teams with veteran QBs that aren’t bigger than everyone…Seattle, Detroit, New Orleans? Dallas would be great if you like comedies
he has arguably been one of the top WR in league last 6 years…but hes on the wrong side of 30 for Pitt to get a 1st rounder for him
Once the compensation drops below a certain level, the Steelers best move is to keep him and make him play safety on the scout team, not giving him a helmet on game day and waiting for him to quit.
They can then suspend him and seek to recoup signing bonus money.
I’m going to go to work tomorrow and tell my employer I want a raise and if they don’t give me one I’m just not going to do any work That will teach them
