The Raiders are armed with three first-round picks heading into April’s draft, providing the organization with plenty of flexibility. Head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock will have to decide how they’ll want to use their early-round picks, but it sounds like the team is certainly open to making some deals.
“I think there’s a lot of potential for trades, and I think that’s one of the things I’m excited about [with] Mike Mayock,” Gruden said during his appearance on “The Game Plan” podcast on the Raiders Podcast Network (via Raiders.com). “What he brings to the table, he’s got great resources around the NFL. He’s been in every building, he’s on a first-name basis, everybody knows Mike and I think he’s going to be on the phones quite a bit with the two picks you talked about. Who knows, we may move up with the No. 4 pick, we may move back with that pick. We’ll see how it all unfolds.”
In the first round, the Raiders have their own pick (#4), the Bears’ pick (#24), and the Cowboys’ pick (#27). Otherwise, the team has seven selections between the second and seventh round.
Of course, the organization is also focused on free agency. While Gruden seemed to indicate that the team will be active, he also cautioned that they’ll be targeting a specific grouping of players.
“We’ve been doing nothing but studying free agents,” Gruden said. “Guys [whose] contracts are up, obviously we aren’t looking to add players that are at the end of their career. We’re looking for blossoming young players, those guys usually don’t get to free agency. The pickings are slim for everybody, but there are a couple diamonds in the rough. We’ll see where the market goes, but you don’t want to spend all your money that you have on a few free agents, you want to try and keep some of that money available in case a trade might develop during the draft.”
After signing a 10-year, $100MM contract last offseason, Gruden’s team disappointed during his first season at the helm. The team ultimately finished the season 4-12, their worst showing since 2014.
Gut feeling is they trade Carr and take Murray at 4. It’s a reach but it’s a QB league and if he’s their guy I think they make sure they get him. Gruden reached for Miller last year so it’s not completely crazy if he reached again.
I hope you’re wrong
I think The Truth is probably right although I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Chucky using his first pick to replace Nugent.
Not at #4. Guys like Josh Allen are too good to pass up.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they trade up to maybe top 15 with that number 24 pick and get Murray. But I don’t think they’ll take Murray number 4
I dont think Care goes this season but id bet its almost a lock that he doesnt play a game in Vegas.
#24 and #27 to Green Bay for #12 is my guess.
That would be really dumb to trade down last year in a loaded defense draft just to trade up this year and cancel it out. Should have just taken Derwin James last year
Trade proposal: The Raiders give Seattle the 4 and 27 pick maybe a 4th or 5th too. The Raiders get many of you are going to say I am crazy but Russell Wilson.
The reasoning is he doesn’t want to be in Seattle his wife wants to be in a bigger city. He more than likely won’t get a contract done if he does he will get $33 mill a year. Seattle will have to tag him which will be expensive too. Seattle takes those picks and theirs and trades them for 1st round picks next year. Since picks this year are more valuable then next year they will get some extra picks especially for the 4th. Next year all the trades they get they turn into the #1 pick.
They have 2 years they will be without a good QB but the payoff will be worth it if they can get the number 1 pick. They obviously use that pick for Lawrence. They can use the money they save to sign Wagner Wright and Clark. They can also upgrade the OL. Then they have a QB under the rookie scale again and not the top paid QB in the league. Sounds crazy but Seattle doesn’t have to gut their draft picks to do this and they get a top notch QB.
I think you think Russell Wilson is a lot better than he is. I could see teams wanting Russell Wilson, but I don’t think much more than a third (second if desperate) would be offered up.
He would draw 2 or 3 first round picks plus other draft capital if a team wanted him.
The guy is a proven winner, a super bowl winning QB – he’d def get at least a first. He’s got several good years left in him.
Wrigley I think you should pull up YouTube on him and watch his deep passes. He is one of if not the best deep ball arm in the game. You should know his scrambling ability already. Look at him with an open mind and tell me again and tell me he is only worth a three.
Murray going to Miami
Why was my post deleted?
Is this an eye test to determine if we could qualify as NFL game officials?
It was gone then came back. Thanks for the reply though.
they have holes on the offensive and defensive lines. I think the best way to get better is protecting your QB and creating running lanes for RBs, while putting pressure on the other teams offense up front. Controlling the line of scrimmage is paramount to success in this league and last year they did not do that. Drafting another QB is a huge mistake. Protect Carr and everything will be fine
